Hi everyone,
I’m facing a frustrating issue where my Nothing Phone (3) is automatically rebooting during the midnight and early morning hours. This started about 4 days ago.
Here is exactly what happens:
Overnight Restart: When I wake up (around 4:00 AM - 5:00 AM), my phone is already sitting on the post-restart lock screen. Because of this, my background apps and services haven’t been running all night—they only start up after I enter my PIN.
The Black Screen Crash: After I unlock the phone and start swiping through my screen, it works for about around 1 minute and 30 sec. Then, the screen just goes completely black without any error messages, freezing, or warning.
Second Reboot: Immediately after the black screen, the Nothing and Android logos appear, and the phone reboots itself all over again.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue (like a faulty motherboard or battery) because the phone runs perfectly fine during the daytime with absolutely zero random reboots. It only happens at night/early morning.
I have already submitted a ticket to Nothing Support via email, but the responses feel automated (like speaking to a robot) and they aren’t really addressing the specific details of this issue.
Is anyone else experiencing this bug on their Phone (3)? Any insights or workarounds would be really appreciated!
Update: This happens during the daytime as well. Currently, when I try to back up my data to the cloud (e.g., Signal, Google Photos, and WhatsApp), the screen just goes black.
I suspect it’s entering a sleep-like state because a single tap on the power button will turn the phone on and initiate the boot process. However, when it shows the white Nothing logo and the dotted animation, it abruptly shuts off before the animation can complete. If I press the power button again, it just gets stuck in an endless loop of abruptly shutting down and going to a black screen.
To force a hard restart, I pressed Volume Up + Volume Down + Power (though I’m unsure if that’s the correct method). The white Nothing logo appears, the phone vibrates slightly, and then shuts off, repeating this process a second later. After that, I just long-pressed the power button to start it up normally.
Note (28/5/2026): I also tried holding Volume Down + Power to enter the bootloader, as well as Volume Up + Power. However, I didn’t keep track of which combination was actually the most effective at getting the phone to boot up completely without crashing to a black screen.
UPDATE 5-JUNE-2026: I have proceed with waranty process and give to the outlet for inspection check. I noticed if i do backup or multitasks in day to day basis in warm environment, the CPU area get warm (maybe inside is hot). and then the Phone 3 just abruptly go black screen which is sleep mode, because you just have to one-tap the power button to TURN ON the phone, and if it still warm temp, it will glitch and sleep mode again.

TL-DR: the CPU area get warm when doing cloud backup (eg. google photo, signal, whatsapp, etc) one at a time. It will just black screen, should be hardware issue.
Work Around: Normally it will ON properly in air-conditioned area, and using the Fan to blow it, to keep CPU area cool down. It will still black screen if running backup, need to depends on luck.
Even if i factory reset, it will still become black screen and sleep mode. one-tap the power button to TURN ON.
