DedF I guess it depends on the quality of the used batteries and possibly other factors line general climate and temperatures. My Samsung Galaxy Buds were more or less dead after around four years of use. That’s not too bad, however it still is a shame that an otherwise good working product becomes electronic waste just because the batteries are dead.
I have been using my Nothing Ear (open) frequently since more than one and a half years now and they are still going strong, in fact I am not sure if I can actually notice any kind of degradation as of today.
Personally I have started to develop as certain distate for these wireless buds in general, because they more and more feel like single-use e-waste products in the long term. Without us being able to easily replace batteries, these never will truly last long. Which of course is beneficial for the manufacturers (like Nothing), who of course wants to sell new products anf not keep the old ones alive.
I have been eyeing the audio products by Fairphone, all of them feature easily replaceable (and available!) batteries - the downside: They are rather expensive and, according to reviews, the overall sound quality is way below their asking price point, which leads to the question if one is willing to sacrifice audio quality over longevity or keep sacrificing sustainability in favor of sound quality.
