np3_cmf1 Do you mean this vid: ?
Tbh, apart from actual kids who are solely focused on benchmark numbers and “my dad’s better than your dad” rhetoric, no reasonable person is going to complain about the 8s Gen 4 when the chip is literally a high end, top tier SoC right behind the 8 Elite. Qualcomm did not offer a single better chip than those two all the way until September 2025, and the 8s Gen 4 is a better value in terms of performance per dollar (the 8 Elite was $280–$310, while the 8s Gen 4 was (still is?) about $180). The 8s Gen 4 is only 20-25% slower (compared to the 8 Elite SM8750-AB, the 2024 variant, not the 8 Elite Gen 5 from September 2025), but much cheaper. It also provides better battery life. Cutting costs there seems like a no brainer decision, IMHO, as no one will really notice its slightly lower performance in day to day use (though everyone’s wallet will notice the price difference) if their day to day use is not running benchmarks several hours per day 🤷♂️
Again, the chip itself is absolutely not a problem, it’s powerful enough, it provides superior performance per dollar over the 8 Elite, and on the Android side nothing was faster than it other than its bigger, older brother (the 8 Elite) and the Dimensity 9400e. Many people claim that the chip is “trash” because it’s not the 8 Elite, but they immediately discredit themselves with that (because by that “impeccable” logic, there would be exactly ONE flagship existing in the world, the fastest one, and everything else would be trash), so just ignore them. Plus, many people just randomly troll and ragebait. It’s like people trash talking a top 3 finisher for being slow in a race with 200 competitors, lol. Absolutely no one except children (and silly YT “reviewers”) will care about that.
The other video you mentioned (with the (4a) “leak”) is this one, and it’s also worth listening to again to get insight into the timelines (since, apparently, many people think companies R&D and manufacture a phone in two weeks, I’m not targeting you with this, of course):
Tl; dr - the chip is great in the NP(3). The display… is meh. They definitely could have bumped the price by USD 50 by choosing a different display vendor that would cost them USD 40 more per unit/panel. People interested in the Phone (3) would buy it at $749 or $799, and people not interested in it wouldn’t buy it at $599 either, so… We’re hugely off topic here though, so my apologies to the mods 🙏
