What do you think about a vanilla (De-Googled) NothingOS edition!

I like this idea very much. I think this is possible and it would be good because it would give Nothing even more identity and more status and further freedoms and single it out as not just another phone maker much like Apple was during the era of flip phones like BlackBerry, Palm Trios l, ect.

Out of 100% Android devices, 97% of them actively use Google apps (search “MADA” to know why). So Nothing would trade away 97% of users to chase 3%, in order to - stand out and get more identity? By being used and present 32 times less, by being sold 32 times less (7,800 units instead of 250,000) and by getting 32 times lower revenue? Interesting, hm.

Great data and all true. But, A Carl has said they didn’t make this company to just be another phone company and what I commented was merely my opinion and certainly not meaning it’s a grand idea but think outside the box a little…

What I am saying didn’t blackberry and other legacy phone makers mock and laugh at the iPhone “Oh that won’t sell…” was blackberry’s thoughts a few years down the road iPhone iOS was kicking their butts and then android was also introduced. Just saying…and now as it’s saying Graphene OS is there and not to mention Lineux is also making an OS on a small handful of devices and their is also Hyper OS that’s been around for awhile too.

I think at this time the company is going from strength to strength making remarkable products that I gladly gave up my iPhone 17 pro max for and left he Apple ecosystem which I never thought I would. I don’t know if it’s time for such a massive leap but I do think Carl and from his videos I’ve read he’s open to ideas and as I stated prior to not just be another phone company. If the team came up with an OS that wasn’t run with Google would I support it? Yes.

For the sake of this topic, I don’t think there’s anything particularly remarkable about Nothing’s products. The only reason why I use their phones (and have recommended them to countless other people) is because they release kernel sources, and allow for offline bootloader unlocking. Nothing OS is also quite privacy friendly in the sense that it doesn’t ship too many proprietary components on top of vendor packages and Google Apps.

I thought it was worth acknowledging what Nothing has already done for user privacy and device ownership relative to their competitors.

Think of Linux as a single component. Its job is to give the software on your device a bridge to interact with the hardware, which is called a Kernel. It’s one of many components alongside the core utilities and userspace applications which build the foundation for an operating system such as Android.

Currently, there is another commercial Linux-based operating system for mobile devices similar to Android, called Sailfish OS. There are also community-driven projects such as postmarketOS and Droidian.

Good products with a different philosophy and design that stand out from the crowd, I personally believe this is what can be said about Nothing’s devices.

Calling them extraordinary products seems to me like a exaggeration, without any technological foundation.

Thinking that the best Nothing phone could compete with the iPhone 17 Pro Max is pure utopia.

Hey I am not saying the iPhone isn’t a great phone because it totally is. You probably don’t care but it’s story time. Growing up I wanted a iPod so bad but couldn’t afford it. It was years later I got my first iPhone SE first gen. Never looked back until now. Yes after working on ever bell and whistle of the 4a pro side by side comparison to the 17 pro Max it is pure utopia I agree. However, I still think the 4a pro is still much more creative much more fun to use and experience. The iPhone the same old interation year after year nothing different. Remember “Think different” anyone? I am not trying to argue but if the product isn’t worth 1200-2400 that I paid for last year for the same darn slab hint hint the iPhone 18pro max…nothing except performance is better…same with the ultra watch and for God same yes the duo looks cool but I already got an iPad mini prior to my Nothing Phone. I am just saying Samsung and others have already done the flip phone…is that the only creative idea they have? Come on.
