Just updated to OS3 today, and while it’s pretty nice, I can’t help but feel like the phone has lost it’s identity with the loss of the NDot font in large amounts. The font is very present in all of Nothing’s marketing material - it’s even in the header of this OS3 beta thread, and it seems to be in abundance on the CMF Watch(s) as well, so I’m just a bit curious as to the reason behind it’s disappearance from the latest software update.
I do genuinely find it somewhat sad - the NDot font has been something I love about the Nothing design language, and it seems to have been replaced with a pretty generic serif font in most cases. I’m not sure what consensus is on this, as it feels like a step back, and bringing NOS closer to other Android forks rather than separating it from the crowd.
An option to keep it, especially on the lock screen would be much appreciated - the new clocks are very nice, but the original NDot clock present on NOS 2.6 is superior in my opinion.
It would be somewhat of a dealbreaker if the NDot font were to leave the phone entirely for me, so I’d just like to pick someone’s brain about this really. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s due to localization difficulties but that would really suck to lose such an amazing font over.
Additionally, the new Settings makeover is nice, but I don’t really like the spaced and centered design - with each settings element being separated from the sides of the screen and from each other with an accent colour. The flat design of the previous app leaves stuff to be desired, yes, but the abundance of separators in the NOS 3 settings is no step forward in my opinion. I’m more than curious on to what other people think, though!
Regardless, the other aspects of the update I can’t complain about - great work otherwise, Nothing Team!
