Nothing Phone will not dial 111 (UK)

sean (1) Good question! I’m not sure if it’s just (1) or all of them, hopefully others will weigh in.

These aren’t the cheapest phones - I’m not too chuffed about the prospect of having to replace a phone I dropped several hundred on because of something that a £25 burner from the supermarket would handle fine. I wonder what could be causing it, because these are all completely different emergency and non-emergency lines, it’s like there’s some kind of automated thing “correcting” people’s choices?

Wouldn’t make any difference if it was a budget phone. The most basic requirement of a phone is that the phone-number its user enters is the number the phone makes a call to. All the more worse that it’s emergency phone numbers the phone (1) has issue with.

Which network provider you are using.
The current update your phone is on (you can find this by going to Settings > About phone > NOTHING OS number).

Tom Thank you, I’m on GiffGaff , and am using Nothing OS 2.5.5

Note: I have been using GiffGaff for a decade across multiple phones, and have not previously had this issue. My friends on GiffGaff who do not have Nothing phones have tested and can call 111 without issue).

I’d be happy to take a log, please just let me know what you need me to do.

(Aside, to reassure everyone else, I was eventually able to get through to the 111 service by using a neighbour’s phone, who was willing to risk infection by letting me borrow their phone. Turns out I did indeed have scarlet fever! I’ve been on antibiotics for a week and am now in a much better state).

Yeah, I’m on O2 and had the same issue Saturday! I ended up getting a call from the cops to make sure I was ok. Something like that could have me done for wasting emergency services time!

I’m running on Android 14 (Nothing OS 2.5.5)

This needs to be addressed ASAP, I’ve had to advise my chronically ill peers not to get this phone due to this major issue, once fixed I’m happy to recommend again, but I’m now back on an old Samsung, just in case.

Has anyone had an update from Nothing on this? I’ve been chasing them for a month (including reaching out to Tom directly) and still haven’t heard of any progress

Nope. I logged another complaint about this as I put it on an advert that 111 can’t be called and when they’ll fix it. They then tried to blame O2! I mean, come on! I left Samsung for this?! And still not heard anything back when I told them it’s not an issue with O2 it’s the device. So who knows when we’ll get an answer.

I’m actually back on an old Samsung as I’m a disabled service user and need access to 111. Gutted is an understatement.

I’ve just spotted they now have a support phone number (https://nothing.tech/pages/contact-support) which I swear didn’t use to be there.

I’ll try and give it a go today, assuming it doesn’t randomly redirect me to the lifeboat service ….

I have NP1 version 2.5.5 and on Giffgaff that uses O2 network and yes having same problem to that extent a few weeks ago they sent an ambulance out.

This has to be sorted URGENTLY

I just looked up this thread to let you guys know this issue has been fixed in the latest 2.5.6 update for NP1.
You can refer to the latest firmware thread here on community to know the details.

I appreciate the team’s quick fix for this emergency issue.

Tom I have a similar problem on Nothing Phone 2a (2.5.6) in Poland. I can’t call 991 - Emergency Energy Service, because it connects me to 112. I don’t know if the problem is only with this number, as there are more 3-digit numbers used by various services, which are less popular.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. Could you please help us by grabbing a log? This is the most efficient way for us to identify and solve the issue.

Setup:

Dial *#*#569#*#* >>Tap top-right corner>>App Settings
Enable Sub-system dump & Telephony Log, and choose reboot

How to capture a network log:

Turn back and choose “Data Network”
Turn on TCP dump & Record screen & Screenshot & Bugreport
Tap “Start Capture” and select "NOT REBOOT
Wait about 20s and reboot your device to generate MD bootupLog
Turn back to the home screen and try enabling & disabling Airplanemode
Reproduce the issue (keep the log kit running in the background)
Dial *#*#569#*#* to go back to the log kit (or tap the one in the notification bar) and tap "Stop
capture" and wait for “Log saved”
Tap “OK” when the log is generated

Share the log:

Turn back to the “Log tool” interface and tap the top right comer>>Logist>>long-press the
2 log files we need>>copy>>ok
Open File Manager and find it under internal storage>>NtShareLog>>Choose the 2 log
files just captured
Upload the log file on Google Drive and set the “General access” to “Anyone with the link”
Share the link with me via the Private Discussion feature.
