When will we hear about the Nothing Phone (3)?

I bought a Nothing Phone 2 last September after leaving an iPhone 14 Pro Max behind, and mostly have been very impressed by it ( apart from the latest launcher update ruining the icon size 😡)

I was looking forward to 1 year going by and getting a Nothing Phone 3, but as we know, not happening this year 😡

For some reason, I keep thinking of now getting a OnePlus 13 when it arrives next January, not sure why !?

I would rather have a Phone 3 with lots of improvements over the Phone 2, but can’t understand why there’s been no real leaks, or word of it - only about cmf, phone 2a, 2a plus etc

Just me that thinks like this ??

Seems that the supposed “ flagship phone ” owners have been left in the dark, and Nothing now seems more concerned on selling as many cheaper variants as they can ?

LionsElectrical I was using the OnePlus 6 since last 6 years. The phone is still in mint condition no physical damage whatsoever till date especially due to the sturdy backcover.

Just today I exchanged OnePlus 6 for the Nothing Phone 2. I am really frustrated and tired of waiting for Nothing Phone 3, couldn’t wait any longer hence got this one.

Thinking of getting the Nothing Phone 3 next year in Big Billion Day sale if there are any significant updates! 😇😊

LionsElectrical i think becouse the AI feauteres we have an delay in launching a NP3 that will bel aunched in start of the next year and it’s serm ok in fact that nothing want to bring something new to the world market of phones.

I think that it’s a good thing that they have held off on bringing the phone (3) this year because it allows them to bring in more improvements.

These days many popular companies launch new phones which have very little improvements from the previous generation.

TKP_ I would be super happy with them if their approach was not getting a flagship per year, but a flagship per real pack of upgrades. That way they will look after the previous flagships more, and the difference between models will be more than “just a number”.

From a sustainable point of view I’d love that approach too. 🌳🌲🌳

Why do you have the need to buy a new phone every year? is there something wrong with your current one?

fuzaco No, I don’t feel the need to buy a new phone every year, but it’s something I’ve always done due to me using it lots during the day for work, and evenings pleasure.

If I get a new phone once a year, I can sell the year old one, which still has some value, and the new one doesn’t cost me as much.

Think of all that money you can save this year by not buying a new phone! Could put it towards a new phone next year, or the year after.

I’m glad you said it, because I was going to. I don’t know why people have this mindset that they need to buy a new phone every year. Perhaps I could understand it back when smartphones were evolving quickly, but these days the ‘upgrades’ are incremental and phones have many more years’ of software support. I’m pleased Nothing isn’t releasing phone (3) until it offers something significant over the phone (2). Would rather see new colours/materials and price reductions.

This is coming from someone who is using a 4yr old OG Nord, and had a OnePlus 2 before that for five years.

sean (1) I dont get why you care ? I purchase a phone or two every year. I think your sound system, playstation, Xbox, new cars, TV and streaming platforms are a complete waste of money, but if thats the way you want to spend your money, thats none of my buisness.

I will definitely with the decision forgot launching nothing phone 3.

I want to see really full packed and flagship killer if that is what I have to wait, I am ok with it.

Just don’t crush my expectations I am already using 3 year old phone but i will wait for extra 1 year to buy nothing phone 3.

You and I think alike. I’d rather see more colour variants (limited editions?) and price reductions (as production costs come down), and less protective cases going to landfill simply because the new model phone has cameras in a slightly different position.

Perhaps alternate between markets each year, if reasonable. For example, a ‘regular’ ~6.7″ phone in the first year, then a compact phone the second year, then repeat.

But what of the people in the second year who are looking to buy a regular sized phone? Would they realistically go for last year’s phone that is now cheaper, or go for the phone from a different manufacturer using the latest chipset even though the phone is more expensive? Maybe the answer is to release a ‘Plus’ version of last year’s phone that makes some upgrades in an economical way, without changing the form factor, to benefit from the cost savings in production and doesn’t force people to buy new protective cases…

sean (1) Exacly! That is what I was hoping when they suddenly released their new phones. Felt like having so many could give them time spans to make the next generation for each one each 3 years.

2025 - NP 3

2026 - NP Compact 1

2027 - CMF Phone 2

2028 - NP 4

2029 - NP Compact 2

And so on…

Being able to keep your trusty phone 5-6 years would be the best and jump only two generations with a ton of improvement there. Would love the brand even more if they came up with this approach, with the limited editions as you say, that i feel are more likely to be kept on the long run and even to be saved for personal collection/memories. I still have my Sony Ericsson W910 around because I loved the design into it.

Can we please send this to someone in nothing management cause most people buy a new phone every 3 years now and the upgrades would be significant and well integrated because they wouldn’t rushed.

How about dropping the numbering convention completely (phone 1, 2, 3…) to allow Nothing some space to focus on making the phones they want to make and not worry about making the next phone notably ‘better’ than the last one, and at the same time ensuring the general public (who want the latest phone simply because it is new) can continue to differentiate easily?

How about naming the ‘main series’ phones after the seasons they are released in (like fashion ranges are), i.e. 24 (a/w), 24 (s/s), 25 (a/w), etc? So you might say, for example, that the phone (2) becomes the phone 23 (s/s), and a ‘(2) plus’ would be the phone 24 (a/w), which might look similar but has some upgraded components and is available in a range of different colours, materials and finishes.

Would keep Nothing in the news with announcements of the latest variants or hardware tweaks.

Because in many cases it’s wasteful. People moronically replacing perfectly good phones with ‘upgrades’ that provide them no RL benefit encourages manufacturers to unnecessarily produce more and more units in larger numbers. That means more rubbish in landfill and the ocean, and more damage to the environment.

If more people held onto their phones for two or more years we’d all be better off.

To clarify, by replacing the numbering convention, each season Nothing could upgrade and downgrade components (or not at all) and the CMFs however they see fit. Each phone would be it’s own standalone device.

What you guys dont think about is people that need a new phone and dont have already a nothing phone , I have a oneplus 7 pro and its getting old , buying a nothing 2 makes no sense , but a 3 would , so imagine how many people just like me , will need go buy another phone just because they choose to release on 25?

I might just buy a oneplus 12 , I want to buy something with the lastest and faster snapdragon available.

Anyone in the US who wants a Nothing phone either has to buy a year old device (2), or buy the (2a) or CMF under the developer program, then hope it works on their T-mobile network (mine did not). I sold my (2a) and bought an older flagship Galaxy Ultra on ebay, brand new and for less money. I really liked the (2a) but the poor connectivity made it useless.
