Hi, Nothing Community!

So recently, I was planning to get either a Microsoft Surface Laptop (7th Gen) or a MacBook Air with M3, but couldn’t decide which one to get. And apparently, Nothing had answered my prayers (god I feel so happy owning some Nothing products). Their new video, titled 7 Signs to SPOT bad tech BEFORE BUYING, kinda got my attention, and it honestly helped me, though I still need time to decide.

Their key points include the following:

  • Identifying identical products from different brands

  • Checking for drop-shipped items from cheaper manufacturers

  • Using Google Lens for product comparisons

  • Avoiding products with unquantifiable names like ‘mega’ or ‘super’

  • Seeking straightforward product names that reflect performance

  • Recognizing potential technical shortcomings behind flashy names

  • Being cautious of manipulated benchmark tests

  • Finding trustworthy sources for performance reviews

  • Valuing active community feedback over skewed benchmarks

  • Considering the track record of new companies

  • Understanding the challenges new brands face in the industry

  • Waiting for proven quality before investing in new products

  • Identifying pre-loaded unwanted apps and ads

  • Assessing the impact of bloatware on device performance

  • Recognizing brands notorious for excessive pre-installs

  • Understanding the costs behind premium products

  • Being wary of products priced significantly lower than competitors

  • Considering the investment in software and licenses for quality features

Most of these points stood out to me from the perspective of a minimalist like me, because why would I need to buy products with lower prices than their competitors? Why should I understand costs behind premium products? These are all the points I’m still thinking of.

Oh, and I also noticed this screenshot, which I paid attention to:
