Notification system should be modified

Currently the way notification system works is really whack. I don’t know what was on their mind when whoever designed it. I’ll explain this with the help of following screenshots

As an example just look at how the status bar is full with Instagram notifications. Why are there so many individual icons for the same app? Seriously stupid idea imo. Now why is this type of notification system where the icons show up per notification instead of per app, stupid? When you get notifications like this -

All of these notifications from a single app should be shown as a single notification group. When we tap on it, it can show individual notifications. Also there should just a single icon in the status bar.

Hey - grouping of notifications is on a per-app developer basis and not to do with Nothing OS. You’ll find apps like GMail, Reddit and X/Twitter already do group their notifications. Are you really surprised that Meta would force individual notifications for Instagram? The only recommendation for this is to turn off individual notification categories if you don’t need them by going to App Info > Notifications and toggling the relevant ones.

adbo Still, what about the same icon shown multiple times on status bar, corresponding to each individual notification? Does NothingOS has no control over it also?

Sakumo I don’t believe so though I could be wrong. As far as I know it just shows each notification you’ve received in the status bar. You could change them to silent notifications to hide them from the status bar but then of course you won’t have an audible notification.

It seems like NothingOS can’t do anything about it unless Android itself provides some tools to override app preferences. The grouped notifications show up as a single icon in status bar e.g. WhatsApp, but the Instagram notifications are never grouped and hence showing up as multiple icons.

That is app problem. Not the OS.
