I bought the Nothing Phone 2a on 7th of june and noticed that the screen would turn off as soon as I pickup a call. Then I had to press the power button to see the options. Then when bringing the phone near to my ear, the screen wouldn’t turn off.
I did nothing, thought that this may be a bug in the software.
After some days, I turned on the Always On Display. Then I noticed that it won’t stay on always.
Downloaded an app from Playstore to test the sensors and found out that the proximity sensor always stays at “status: Near”. It would never show “far”.
I tried to remove the screen guard and check. But no luck. Finally I decide to visit the service center on Saturday (22 June) nearby. They reflashed the software and told me that it could be a hardware issue and asked me to come back Monday morning because the repair could take time.
I asked that I have purchased the phone in this month itself, can’t you replace this? They told me that I should have brought it here within 7 days, now the replacement period is over.
I mean this is a manufacturing defect. isn’t it? Shouldn’t it be replaced since I have gotten the faulty product?
I told them that I would come on Monday (which is today - 24 june). I go there, give them my phone, wait for about 1 hour. They did something and the proximity sensor was working with a hit and miss. Sometimes it would work and other time it wouldn’t.
They then again took it back and I waited for 45 minutes more. The response I get is that they need to contact the Nothing Team to see what is the problem and see for a solution. They might even have to replace the board. And asked me to keep the phone with them for maximum 7 days so that they can repair it.
This is not a good experience. Even it being a manufacturing defect, I am not receiving a replacement. And I have to use a repaired phone!
