It’s almost certain that we are going to see a price increase for the Nothing Phone 3. Obviously Nothing is aware of the potential backlash from their community and probably has a plan in mind. Here is what I think their plan is. Nothing has been making very little profits form the previous Nothing Phones and they need to increase the price in order to become more profitable as well as have access to the newer chips and components that the flagships are using to better compete with them. My guess is that Nothing will release the Nothing Phone 3 as a premium option around 699 or 799 USD and announce that a Nothing Phone 3a is on the way for around 499 or 599. They might even go lower or sell the Nothing Phone 3a at a loss just to appease fans and keep the good public opinion of the company. They don’t want to risk a going down the same path OnePlus did. That’s probably why they also made the CMF Phone 1 as another even more competitive option. That way the people can pick an choose how much they want to spend and aren’t locked to only one phone.
They spent time building trust with the Phone 1, 2, and 2a, listening to feedback and being very open and transparent so that once they do increase the price the community has a general idea of what to expect in terms of quality from future Nothing Phones. That’s why people are okay with spending so much on iPhones and Samsungs, they trust and know that they can expect a product that will work very well and last a long time.
This decision shouldn’t hurt the company too much it and it might even help them in the long run. Nothing has purposely made their phones stand out to attract attention and to develop a brand recognition. If the cheaper models sell a lot then there’s going to be a lot of people that will be exposed to the brand, which will get more people interested in the brand. I’ve had numerous people who have never heard of Nothing ask me about my Nothing Phone 2 because of how unique it looks. And judging from how well the 2a is selling I would say they are on that track. If they continue to listen to the community and improve their product then they could be on the way to being one of the big players in the phone industry.
Of course this is all just speculation. What do you all think? Anything you agree or disagree with? I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
