The ideal world would be for the stock launcher to do exactly what you want it to out-of-the-box yeah, but with how diverse people’s personalisations are that’s not really realistic, at least not at this point. Functionally though, it is perfectly functional on the base level, it’s only the features that some people want and others don’t that are missing on the whole. But if you feel like a feature would be a worthwhile addition, there is a feedback form you could fill in to suggest it if you like and it may get implemented in future. But absolutely the software does still need maturing.
The reason why I was referring to bloat was that you mentioned adding more widgets - people are already complaining that the existing Nothing widgets count as bloat e.g. the NFT gallery one, and bloat is tough to define. But in many people’s opinions, adding extra widgets would be extra bloat and there would be more complaints. Not saying they are in my opinion, unless it gets to an absurd level, but in some people’s they are as the definition of bloat is generally fairly personal. If I don’t use the re-sizeable icons or the dot-matrix clock for example, do those aspects of the launcher count as bloat? Again I’d say it doesn’t, but others might. Obviously it’s nowhere near the extent as brands like Samsung who have their own version of every Google app included with stock Android 😂 but people are picky when it comes to bloat-free claims. Plenty of widgets on the Play Store though, with the trade-off being they’re obviously not Nothing dot-matrix themed.
And Nothing have actually mentioned they want to have an open ecosystem, same reason they steered away from proprietry charging, with the ultimate goal of allowing seamless integration of products from different brands. The Tesla connectivity in Phone (1) is their first experiment with that, but as things progress you could probably expect the Nothing X app to support other brands of earphones. I think some people already found evidence of Apple’s earbuds being in the app so we might see various brands being added as time goes on. But again it’s early days and they’re not there yet, they just wanted to release the app alongside the Ear Stick and make it so that you don’t need a Nothing phone in order to use the Nothing ears.
