Welcome to the second Quarterly Updates. Read for our latest events, rewards, highlights and more.
Highlights
A new addition to the Nothing Ecosystem launched last month. Ear (stick), half in-ear earbuds that balance comfort with our most advanced sound yet. Presented by Julie, our Senior Copywriter.
Here’s what the media have said:
Forbes: “The result is a punchy sound with enough oomph to articulate even the deepest grooves.”
T3: “The best affordable alternative to Apple AirPods” and an 80% score."
WIRED: “Resolute wireless connectivity. Open, well-organised sound.”
The launch made us think about how important our team is to our wins. We’re a tech company, but we’re not cold. And the Ear (stick) launch video is a celebration of our warmer, human side.
But before that, we first revealed Ear (stick) in a creative collaboration with upcoming designer Chet Lo. The earbuds and Phone (1) were shown on his runway show in London Fashion Week, alongside custom made bags to show off the Glyph Interface.
And finally, we welcomed Tim Holbrow as our new CFO. His extensive experience in tech has led him to work for top names like Symbian and Nokia.
Community life
As promised, we’ve progressed our Dot program.
With two rewards for Red Dot holders, our most engaged community members. A voucher for Ear (stick) and an invitation to join our New Year dinner, to celebrate the community’s role in our journey and, of course, entering Year (3).
To help grow our movement, we’ve introduced Share Nothing – a referral program that rewards you with Black Dots, and therefore more benefits. For now, this program is only available in selected countries, but we’ll scale it depending on how it goes.
Now, it’s time to spotlight those who’ve shown the true spirit of a Nothing community member.
Flash_26 has been, by far, our most active voice on Discord. Prolific in his replies and serving helpful advice and a generally positive attitude. Please join us in celebrating a member who has filled our server with such passion.
Our Black Dot holder, Temi, joined her fellow Dots in an exclusive preview of Ear (stick) a couple of weeks before launch. Her unfiltered, insightful feedback was much appreciated by the whole team – thank you Temi.
And we’re very proud to announce that Rob, our Mod, Dot holder and Community Board Observer has officially joined the Nothing team in London as a community manager alongside Rudi.
Rob is living proof of our community manifesto, how our supporters can truly be part of Nothing. He’s been one of our most passionate and active supporters, always pushing to grow our community. He’s helped build our Discord, has taken part in every event and has guided new members. Congratulations, Rob, and welcome to the team!
What’s coming next
We’re doubling down on strengthening the community. In Q4, we’ll be introducing a new code of conduct, our long-term strategy and rework our onboarding. Kicking off before the end of 2022.
Since our Nothing OS workshops with the Software Design Product team have been so helpful, we’ll start hosting them with other teams at Nothing, to keep hearing your feedback.
With the first one at the end of this month. Ryan will join our Discord to talk all things Nothing Store Soho and what this milestone means for us moving forward. Join our Discord to get notified of the event and tune to the Workshop stage channel on the day.
Update from your Community Board Observer
“As my tenure as Board Observer comes to an end, I attended my final meeting last week to represent our community. Our place at the table continues to be valued by the rest of the board who are receptive and engaging with my updates. Rest assured, your comments and concerns are being echoed at the highest level.
I was happy to share some positive sentiments from the community including the regularity of Nothing OS updates, improvements to the customer support experience and a much improved pre-order experience for Ear (stick) compared to Phone (1). As usual, I also took the opportunity to voice a number of your concerns including: reactions to the ear (1) price increase, communication issues during 3rd party repairs and a need to improve our Nothing OS feedback loop.
We’ll elect our new representative in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled for information on that process, coming soon. I want to once again thank all of the community members that voted for me to take on this role. I took great pride in amplifying our voice and I look forward to seeing our next Board Observer in action.”
See you soon.
The Nothing Team.
