@adbo need you to escalate this, i went through nothing support and their only response was that i go to a service center.
Ear (a) - battery discussion
I hve this issue aswell , kindly provide a fix
no fix so far because Nothing has decided to completely ignore this issue. the least they could have done so far was provided an update on their own testing.
I have only used it like 10 times , I have the nothing phone 1 , i really thought this would go well , couldn’t have been more wrong

After a night of charge my right one just dies and disconnects after some seconds. After reconnecting it shows 60%. 2-3 times and it’s depleted completely.
The left one just drains very very fast. Around 15 minutes of listening, no more.
That’s nothing but a shame, Nothing…

Same problem as everyone on this post: following the update V 1.0.1.46, the left earphone that does not charge beyond 90% and that discharges faster than the right (drops to 0 when there is still 65% left on the right after 2 hours of use). I tried the reset as well as different settings (bluetooth switch, LDAC codec, ANC, in-ear detection, etc.) without results.
I observe, from reading the comments, that for a large majority of us, this has been happening since the update and systematically on the left earphone. I don’t think the left earphone has a different design from the right (different microcontroller or battery). So I think it’s a software bug induced by the update.
Q: But what have the Nothing devs been doing all this time?
A: Nothing…
Founding this just before my Ear (a) delivery, so I should avoid any update, I guess.
i just got mine, and haven’t noticed this yet… but if i do i’ll come back and update
i started having this issue a few days ago, but on the right earbud. Similar to what’s described above in terms of max charge a 90% and then drops to 15-10% after just a short period of use. Firmware v 1.0.1.46

I purchased nothing ear(a) in the month of June 2024 with other nothing products. The earphones worked perfectly fine until the December update. After that the left ear buds started draining and now it just drains without even completing a single song. I did the troubleshoot and even the factory reset as well but they are of no use. I went to the service center and they are not gonna replace it because there are some minor scratches on the charging station. I complained this to the support team of nothing india and even they are not gonna replace it, I told them that the earbuds have no scratches but they still refuse to replace it because there are scratches on the case. For the last one and a half month I’m frustrated and disappointed with the product as I’m unable to use it. I asked the support team to let me talk to a senior but they refused. I think they are doing this because I didn’t purchase their liquidity plan while buying the earbuds. The support team even blocked my emails and now I’m forced to keep these defective earbuds with me.
RaimondoSpagnolo Clearly yes!

@Carl @adbo clearly this thread needs escalation and a public disclosure on the firmware update progress. there’s only been more and more people with this issue in the past few months.
y’all, any youtubers we can ask to highlight this about the product in the meantime?
edit:
alright as an update, i went to the service center today for these earbuds. they literally just replaced the earbuds because mine were under warranty. this has allowed me to AVOID the firmware update and for now, the earbuds are working fine.
for everyone who’s stumbled upon this thread - if you got the same 1-Year Warranty i did, then get your earbuds replaced ASAP and avoid any further firmware updates.
also definitely sucks that this is the best possible solution right now.
Mmmhmmm it seems like I’m not the only one, and I was also about to post a thread about this topic too. I thought that it’s only been 8 months since I had these pair and it’s already having battery issues.
Having the same issue, I have one pair since July, ever since the December update the left bud has constantly low battery (hardly ever reaches above 75% and never above 90%) and discharges much quicker than the right bud.
(Keep in mind I’m the attached picture I placed the affected bud in the case 15 minutes as it was well below 25% and I needed at least one more hour of listening time)
Nothing should really fix this or at least put out a bulletin explaining the reason and what to do (replacement, repair, firmware update?)
I’ll request a replacement under warranty in the next few days even though it sucks to have to do that.
It is very disappointing to have such a promising product, with great functionality for an affordable price and then losing customer loyalty because you ignore the issues they’re facing. Absolutely stupid on Nothing’s part to behave like this.
RiccardoSartori really…it’s just so annoying. Now a days my earbuds last only 25 mins…i already replaced once in my warranty period. Nothing doing nothing about this
any ideas on where all we can message the company to bring attention to this?
it’s also concerning that there’s a battery issue thread for basically every device from Nothing. almost as if there’s a deeper issue here than the ear (a).
abhigyantrips text the instagram account of nothing. Do not text nothing india. The official uk account would definitely respond and help you. I’ve asked them on Instagram and they told me to once again visit a different service center, and even if there is any issue with the earphones, they told me to contact them once again.
RiccardoSartori Welcome to the right topic!
I am in the same situation and I finally managed to get an RMA number to be able to return my headphones to a repair center under warranty. I should point out that I had many exchanges with support before getting support (screenshots of the defect, photos and videos of the cosmetic condition of the device, denial of responsibility when seeing the purchase invoice from Amazon, etc. I ended up threatening to call on a consumer protection association to get them to grant my request!). So patience and courage to those who embark on this procedure.
p.s.: You made me laugh with the reference to Dire Straits, it’s clear that it couldn’t be “Nothing else matters”..
I have got the same problem with my Nothing Ear as well (not Ear(a)). My right earbud doesn’t charge fully and gets drained in one hour. I bought Nothing Ear after my experience with Nothing Ear(2) was good. And to my surprise the sound quality was even better than the previous one. It seemed like a very promising product and was recommending it to my friends. Now, all these issues just because of a firmware update? Totally disappointed. At least they could let us know of a firmware fix that we can expect by so and so date. But there is complete radio silence. Not good.
Our headphones clearly need an update that fixes this bug, as I have the same problem. Also, at some point, my left earphone simply refused to charge. It only charged again after it had run down to zero. It happened once and definitely not because the earphone contacts were dirty or the base was discharged, I checked everything 10 times, it was a firmware bug. WE NEED AN UPDATE!
