Merged 1 post from Ultra XDR Update on April 18 Ruined the Camera on Nothing Phone (2) – Why is Nothing Ignoring Us?.

Is this really what we Nothing Phone (2) users have paid 55k for?

Nothing Phone SeriesCommunity Feedback Community HelpPhone (2) Software Help

Even 15-20k phones of other companies provide good photosthan this. Total waste of money in camera department other than that it’s really a good phone but the camera is not even close to be called good.

Check out the photos that how it’s completely horrible

See, it doesn’t matter how many times I retake the photo but it always comes out horrible.

& When we raise the complaint they remain silent & if we raise issue by feedback/suggestions then they have one set of solutions only which includes clear cache, reset device blah blah blah. Are we suppose to reboot or reset the device each & every time we have to take pictures?

Instead of giving a permanent solution by fixing this through update why are they ignoring us? Just because this phone has turned out to be a flop one compared to other models? If so then still we have paid for it a big amount of money so we deserve the solution not excuses.

I request Nothing to improve the overall video camera and photo camera. Specially video camera should be improved a lot I guess. I think Nothing phone 2 video camera can do better if optimised in software, bring more stabilization to improve video, bring capability for more autofocus, AI based video enhancements can also be bought which can double the quality of video in Nothing phone 2. I also appreciate that Nothing photo camera has improved overtime. So I hope Nothing will also be improving the overall video camera.

According to my studies on the processor of Nothing Phone 2, it is capable of supporting 8k video but we users can understand that it is not possible because on the release of Nothing Phone 2 , Nothing was just a new brand and is hard to get much hardwares as a new brand. Also Nothing Phone 2 can support cinematic mode . But there is no cinematic mode for this phone a phone with 50 MP camera with ois and eis, the already used ai hdr enhancement features can be taken in advantage for enhancements of videos. And last but not the least it has a powerful chipset Snapdragon 8 plus gen 1. We still feel the video camera is not up to the level of the given hardware. That is something to be asked isn’t it right?

I’m here with all respect. I’m a huge Nothing fan. I see Nothing in a better position. I think Nothing will take this into consideration and bring much and better video camera improvements in the upcoming updates.

Worst camera ever seen with this flagship phone.

Photos are just crap it was even good before this Android 15 and Nothing os 3. I am using this NP2 since 1 year.

The Nothing Phone (2) is positioned as a flagship device, yet it features a 2x optical zoom, which seems modest compared to the 3x optical zoom in the newer Nothing Phone (3a). This raises questions about the camera capabilities of the Phone (2), especially given its premium status.

Additionally, the Phone (2) is slated to receive three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. While this is commendable, extending the software support to four years of major updates would enhance user experience and device longevity.

Enhancing the optical zoom and extending software support would reinforce the Phone (2)'s flagship status and better meet user expectations.

CYPHER_LYNX hey there! The x2 zoom in phone (2) is not optical, but digital. This means that, from the original 50MP image, the phone crops out part of it, leaving you with a x2 image at 12MP. You can check that trying to use the 50MP mode, and you will notice that the x2 zoom is no longer available.

It is impossible for Nothing to add more optical zoom, as that is a hardware feature that depends ond the physical lenses on your phone.

Phone (3a) has x3 optical zoom because it has a periscope lens that distorts the light to make the zoom effect. However, it’s impossible for the periscope lens to widen the image (going back to x1 zoom) and that’s why the phone has several lenses.

I hope this helps you understand a bit about the camera hardware on both phones. I am a Phone (2) user and it’s true that sometimes I miss having a telephoto lens on the phone, but overall I’m very happy with how the camera works

Can any of the moderators speak up whether the Nothing Phone 2 will get a new update on the video camera . Will there be cinematic mode coming in the Nothing Phone 2.Which can improve the overall videography of the phone.

Don’t take it in a bad sense but in all the interviews Carl use to compare Nothing phones with IPhones, Samsung etc . I don’t say Nothing is a bad brand . I am a huge fan of Nothing’s software experience, bloat free software environment, Photo camera improvements etc. But it is really sad that the video camera hasn’t improved much since release of the Nothing phone. I didn’t mean to offend , but it is a reality that we users experience. Carl compares Nothing with other flagship brands and at the end of the day we user depend on that flagship phones to take a good video. It seems bad as a user that we can’t completely depend on our phone for our needs. We users are using a high end processor phone with good camera hardwares and need to depend on other phones for taking a proper video.

According to me the improvement to be brought are:

    1. Improve the overall lighting of the videography.
    2. All the currently Nothing phones have OIS EIS cameras with that improve the video stabilization.
    3. AI based video enhancements.
    4. Autofocus Capabiliy
    5. And last but not the least Cinematic mode. Every currently released Nothing phones have the hardware which is capable of supporting a cinematic mode and we Nothing users are really sad that we don’t have it.

We are leaving the rest in the teams hands. I hope Nothing will do their best on this case. Please don’t disappoint us .

Here’s the thing; I’ve never taken a bad photo with my NP2. At a glance, they actually look fine. However, there’s a serious problem with the image processing. Look at closely at the second photo, a zoomed in tile of the first. It’s so splotchy with halos around EVERYTHING. This seems to be an issue specifically when the phone detects foliage (?), but there straight-up there isn’t a scenario I’ve found where this looks good. The haloing especially is some of the worst I’ve ever seen to the point where this has to be a bug.

Again, NP2 takes perfectly good photos, but when this processing kicks in specifically, it looks almost unacceptable.

Bro I agree the camera is good in some aspects. I am sure you took this photos in just a normal photo mode. In a camera app there are many other camera features beyond normal camera. I agree when you take normal photos Nothing phones gives a very good result. But have you tried taking Night sight photos in 1x and 2x zooms it doesn’t give a very satisfactory results. Also Nothing lags very much in terms of mobile videography. This issue shouldn’t be normalised. So technically speaking Nothing’s Camera need an overall improvement. No one completely said the Nothing camera is completely bad. But we are saying that we need improvements. Especially in the videography and the Night sight

This camera is a joke now.
I’ve been using Phone (2) since Nov 2023.
I kept hoping, it’ll improve, nope, nothing.
        It’s frustrating.
Below are the issues I’ve had over 1.5 years.

        1. The HDR is very inconsistent. The whites are full-blown, overexposed bright pieces, and the blacks are too dark. This makes the image look bad.
        2. The Ultrawide produces very soft and unusable photos for being a 50MP sensor.
        3. The colour inconsistency. If I click 5 photos in a somewhat tricky situation. No way all 5 photos will look similar. 1-2 might get overblown with weird blurriness and colours.
        4. Bloom effect when the light source is behind the subject.
        5. Photos in night are very soft and if the subject moves even slightly, it’ll be all blurry.
        6. Photos taken of documents with blue ink are turned black by the camera.
        7. Things currently missing which would be nice additions- Night mode in portrait mode, 2x sensor crop, Setting camera processing by Nothing Gallery so that it would be faster as promised.

This has been going since the start. Very poor experience for a flagship. I can’t even find any good simple point and shoot gcams or alternatives. If anyone knows any please reply to this.
But these issues are a priority and all we can do is hope that one day it’ll be solved.

BassimBinYoosaf My intention wasn’t to take away from any of your comments about the physical sensor; sorry if it appeared that way! I just wanted to show that there’s a software problem too.

The splotches and halo’ing in the photo I sent are caused by (what I believe is) the image processing, the software. That issue specifically can be fixed with some tweaking on Nothing’s side. You are right, the sensor is lacking, and that can’t be fixed by a simple update, but some of the issues people are seeing can.

Today I took a picture of my baby daughter… somehow in the end picture my daughter had 6 fingers…. I believe this happens because the phone takes several pictures and combine them in post to show the “best” of all of them. If the subject is moving this is atrocious. Please stop this, make the camera take the picture as it is when we press the shutter button

It’s been a long time but flagship does need some attention any chance of phone 2 getting true lens engine 3

Phone 3a gets a camera update, no one from nothing thinks about phone 2 users

Since 3.0 software updates, shooting video at 4k the performance huge degraded. Even 1080P is better, smooth taking less space. What happened to nothing ? Seriously
