Phone (2) - Battery Drain Discussion
I’m a fresh user of NP2 and after buying and immediately updated to 2.6. Battery life is HORRENDOUS, drains 7% over night, watching YouTube video on the lowest brightness eats another 6%.
Love the device but I’m seriously considering returning it as I can’t make it to the evening on one charge.
I’m on version:
Pong-U2.6-240828-1751-EEA
Please guys if you have the same issue report it in settings>system>feedback, maybe devs will see this and fix it.

Idle battery drain is not the best (some other devices are just as bad, although I know some which are definitely better). But looking at the review on DXO
https://www.dxomark.com/nothing-phone-2-battery-test/
ii was like that from the beginning, not only starting with 2.6.
Apart from that I get around a calculated 10 h sot with browsing or other things, light gaming maybe 7 to 8. That’s ok.
Btw. I don’t use any Meta apps except WhatsApp because FB and Insta drain battery like crazy. I think much better battery performance is only possible with either less powerful hardware or higher capacity battery. I own also a Galaxy A23 for other purposes. And while the battery there lasts about 15 h sot (this thing got a 5000 mah battery) the hardware is so weak and slow it’s painful.
You gotta trade time for power or vice versa with current technology.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I purchased the NP2 in January 2024. Since then, I’ve noticed that after each update, the phone increasingly overheats, even when idle. I haven’t installed any third-party apps, and the ones I do use (Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, etc.) take up around 15-20GB of space. These are legitimate apps that, to my understanding, shouldn’t be causing overheating, slow charging, or the growing system file issue.
I’ve reformatted the phone multiple times out of frustration, but the problem persists. Previously, I used an OP 9 without experiencing any software or OS issues like this. After the last two updates from NP2, I decided not to reformat and instead deactivated all Google-related services and privacy settings, including ad services, in an effort to help. This reduced the increase in system file size by 1-3GB, but the issue always returns after a few hours or days.
Initially, after a factory reset, my system files were around 20GB. However, after updating, they grew to 40GB, then to 60GB after the next update. Now, it’s jumped from 60GB to 100GB, and I still haven’t reformatted. I’m seriously reconsidering whether to keep this phone, though I want to emphasize this isn’t a hate post. In fact, I enjoy using the phone when it’s not experiencing these issues. The battery life (SOT) is quite good after a factory reset withou- updates, which is now my dilemma: whether to update or not. As you know, updates are supposed to fix bugs, but since version 2.5.2, they haven’t.
I’ve contacted support several times, and although I’ve submitted the requested logs, they ultimately advise me to have the phone inspected by an authorized dealer. I’m at a loss, as I don’t have a spare phone, and the inspection could take about 3 days to a week. I do not suspect this is hardware issue, as this clearly seems to be an OS problem…
Hmm… This sounds as if either there has been something gone wrong with one of the updates (speaking of the space used by the os and/or heating problems) or it really is - in regard to the heat problem - faulty hardware.
Sorry but I see no way other than sending in. My NP2 was produced May 24 and doesn’t show anything unusual after updating up to 2.6.
You could check by dialing *#*#0#*#* then -> battery -> voltage to check if there is anything unusual with the battery. Apart from that = service.

pgu_ Many thanks for your tip. I’d like to add that after a while, when the system files stopped growing, everything stabilized. However, during the growth period (when it overheated and the battery degraded), the system files increased by over 20 GB. Interestingly, the overheating and file growth stop when the internet (SIM or Wi-Fi) is off, but it resumed whenever connected to the internet. My system files are currently at 108 GB, as shown in the screenshot. The battery is now in fair condition since the overheating stopped. I suspect this might be in preparation for a new update.
I have also tried using various apps for clearing cache in batches, such as 1Tap Cleaner and SD Maid. whilst it managed to clear around 6 GB of cache, this haven’t resolved the main issue of the system files still taking up over 100 GB+.
If this is a hardware issue, which part of the NP2 could be causing the system files to grow?
Hi
After 2.6 update in nothing phone 2 battery is draining fast call drops I am fed up I need solution for this
hrry stop those non sense
Nothing works
It’s definitely draining like a hell
Only 4 to 5 hours of SOT
MatheenAhamed I deactivated tap to wake screen as this caused a lot of standby drain in my other phones too - for me this helped tremendously.
Since the last 2 days there is a huge battery drain on my Nothing Phone 2. During the night there is about 10-12% battery drain. Got last update at the start of September, that was a security patch update. But don’t know suddenly the battery is draining heavily on my phone. I’ve restarted the phone many time, but still having the problem. I request Nothing community to look into the matter. @Firmware (bot)

Yesterday at night while sleeping i kept my phone on the table,I was seeing some YouTube videos.i sow that the charging was 78%, I on battery saver mode due to the battery drain issue,At morning 10 am I took my phone to use ,the charging was 72% even after oning battery saver,so simply i opened battery settings to check which all apps have drained the battery. There a shocking thing happened, within 10 seconds 1% dropped i.e 71% remains i ignored it , after that I just browsed battery usage status for only 1 min the battery immediately dropped 4% battery i.e 67% remains
What is this nothing first off all i didn’t used my phone then also the battery got drained 6 -7% after ignoring this thing,if I start to use my phone it acts weird . iPhone 15,15 plus even having lesser mAh battery then phone 2 (phone 2 has 4700mAh and 15 plus has 4300mAh)the 15 plus give a screen on time of 9 to 10 hours but my phone 2 is struggling to give a screen on time of 4 hours,i bought my phone 2 in May/2024 what nothing software team is doing
VishwanathS_ghante i dont think you can compare iphone battery and android battery on mAh basis. The OS is very different

arpan2308 don’t tell what iPhone is, tell about the problem I am facing
VishwanathS_ghante Suggest you to go through the thread discussion. Also, track the battery usage closely and see if the similar thing happens again. Could be one-off scenario also.

arpan2308 according to you how much is the screen on time of phone 2
I have restricted every single apps(system and installed apps) to run in background but still thay are running in background at night 2 to 3 hours draining the battery.
I don’t have any sim card installed in my phone,i use my phone through wifi of my mom’s phone because I am a 17 years old boy I use this phone only for two things one YouTube and pw classes and second for gaming (i only Play free fire for 1 hours daily) now don’t tell that Playing games have effected my phone.
If I use my phone 100% till 0% there is only 4 to 4.5 hours screen on time/battery backup, if I only play games 100% till 0% there is only 3 to 4 hours screen on time/battery backup
