You are not the first, and not the last talking about the heating problem…
And honestly? I’m getting scared. I’m waiting for the NP 2(a)+ to get my very first Nothing and I hope that those issues will be patched soon!

m.i.tsui. we have bought 2 phone 2a’s and one phone 2 which i am using and all of the 3 work fine, go ahead for whatever you are planning, def the phone 2a+ is better than the regular 2a
Rob maybe upcoming software updates will help?
Abdul-Muhaymin Just wait brother and your phone will be like NP2 in a year or so with all the issues we are facing. They are releasing new phone with good optimized software and when it passes the warranty mark, the problems then start to arise. Nothing’s software is very good and their business tactics are not good. My NP2 phone is super smooth but the battery and processor is bleeding like hell. In a matter of time its health will degrade and then I am going for other brands.
Abdul-Muhaymin yeah I really hope so… Especially for the copper plate that they put on the back of the phone to prevent overheating apparently… High hopes
totalsandy stop shaming the product just because you got a faulty unit or you didn’t use it properly , this is not a good thing to say since i plan to use this phone for 5 years or so since i bought this phone with hard earned money , not some bucks from trees . So stop making someone feel bad that their Phone will die in sometime
Abdul-Muhaymin I am saving your reply for the time being and if you are in this community forum for 5 years and crying back for the same, I shall post the screenshot back to you. And fyi everyone purchase gadgets with their hard earned money as if you are not the first one to do so. Stop being a fanboy and there is not point fighting with a stranger behind a keypad. Good luck to you
DhelipanRaj same battery darin issue for my nothing phone 2
Hey mate,
you say your NP2 is 2 days old? It does take a few days for all the various usage algorithms, processes and applications to get their baselines. The phone is learning about you, how you use it and when you use it. There’s a ton of setup activities that go on in the background of a fresh device.
First check you have adaptive battery turned on… settings > battery > adaptive battery. That will help in the long(er) term with battery drain. Also if you’re tethering that does use extra battery, especially if signal strength is weak(er).
Chess & YouTube are using significant battery. Check they’e updated and Nothing OS is up-to-date too.
I’d suggest…. give it a week to 10 days, if battery drain persists, speak with support. But, this doesn’t look out of the ordinary for a new device.
I’m facing some serious issues of battery drain in my phone 2… I noticed this after the update but I’m not sure the that this problem is because of update or something else … I have to fully charge the phone 2 times a day ( morning 100% and afternoon) … is someone facing the same problem of battery drain on phone2 ???????????
I’m a fresh user of NP2 and after buying and immediately updated to 2.6. Battery life is HORRENDOUS, drains 7% over night, watching YouTube video on the lowest brightness eats another 6%.
Love the device but I’m seriously considering returning it as I can’t make it to the evening on one charge.
I’m on version:
Pong-U2.6-240828-1751-EEA
Please guys if you have the same issue report it in settings>system>feedback, maybe devs will see this and fix it.
Idle battery drain is not the best (some other devices are just as bad, although I know some which are definitely better). But looking at the review on DXO
https://www.dxomark.com/nothing-phone-2-battery-test/
ii was like that from the beginning, not only starting with 2.6.
Apart from that I get around a calculated 10 h sot with browsing or other things, light gaming maybe 7 to 8. That’s ok.
Btw. I don’t use any Meta apps except WhatsApp because FB and Insta drain battery like crazy. I think much better battery performance is only possible with either less powerful hardware or higher capacity battery. I own also a Galaxy A23 for other purposes. And while the battery there lasts about 15 h sot (this thing got a 5000 mah battery) the hardware is so weak and slow it’s painful.
You gotta trade time for power or vice versa with current technology.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I purchased the NP2 in January 2024. Since then, I’ve noticed that after each update, the phone increasingly overheats, even when idle. I haven’t installed any third-party apps, and the ones I do use (Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, etc.) take up around 15-20GB of space. These are legitimate apps that, to my understanding, shouldn’t be causing overheating, slow charging, or the growing system file issue.
I’ve reformatted the phone multiple times out of frustration, but the problem persists. Previously, I used an OP 9 without experiencing any software or OS issues like this. After the last two updates from NP2, I decided not to reformat and instead deactivated all Google-related services and privacy settings, including ad services, in an effort to help. This reduced the increase in system file size by 1-3GB, but the issue always returns after a few hours or days.
Initially, after a factory reset, my system files were around 20GB. However, after updating, they grew to 40GB, then to 60GB after the next update. Now, it’s jumped from 60GB to 100GB, and I still haven’t reformatted. I’m seriously reconsidering whether to keep this phone, though I want to emphasize this isn’t a hate post. In fact, I enjoy using the phone when it’s not experiencing these issues. The battery life (SOT) is quite good after a factory reset withou- updates, which is now my dilemma: whether to update or not. As you know, updates are supposed to fix bugs, but since version 2.5.2, they haven’t.
I’ve contacted support several times, and although I’ve submitted the requested logs, they ultimately advise me to have the phone inspected by an authorized dealer. I’m at a loss, as I don’t have a spare phone, and the inspection could take about 3 days to a week. I do not suspect this is hardware issue, as this clearly seems to be an OS problem…
Hmm… This sounds as if either there has been something gone wrong with one of the updates (speaking of the space used by the os and/or heating problems) or it really is - in regard to the heat problem - faulty hardware.
Sorry but I see no way other than sending in. My NP2 was produced May 24 and doesn’t show anything unusual after updating up to 2.6.
You could check by dialing *#*#0#*#* then -> battery -> voltage to check if there is anything unusual with the battery. Apart from that = service.
pgu_ Many thanks for your tip. I’d like to add that after a while, when the system files stopped growing, everything stabilized. However, during the growth period (when it overheated and the battery degraded), the system files increased by over 20 GB. Interestingly, the overheating and file growth stop when the internet (SIM or Wi-Fi) is off, but it resumed whenever connected to the internet. My system files are currently at 108 GB, as shown in the screenshot. The battery is now in fair condition since the overheating stopped. I suspect this might be in preparation for a new update.
I have also tried using various apps for clearing cache in batches, such as 1Tap Cleaner and SD Maid. whilst it managed to clear around 6 GB of cache, this haven’t resolved the main issue of the system files still taking up over 100 GB+.
If this is a hardware issue, which part of the NP2 could be causing the system files to grow?
