Introduce yourself
Cheetosdust I actually have two cacti now (not to add fuel to the cactus vs. cacti fire)! His name is Paul.
Cheetosdust When a new product - or even a new feature - is released, I always love to read complementary messages about it, explaining the philosophy, the development of the idea, what the company is trying to achieve, etc.
^ Definitely something I’m interested in too, thanks for suggesting.
Julie Well Julie, I hope Paul and Jeremiah are not too prickly.
On a note that’s not a dad joke (Fridays, huh?), I do like to read Apple’s Newsroom. It’s a good balance between quality and marketing.
Cheetosdust Honestly, I am not a fan but I did hear a great Nelly remix with a Bicep track last weekend
amaka A Bicep track? I need to discover it during the weekend - or, to keep the conversation hip and cool, during The Weeknd.
Speaking of* discovering awesome songs during the weekends, the forums have a lovely thread where we are creating an outstanding playlist. Please do give it a read and feel free to add some of your favorite artists.
Yes, even the ones you are not a fan, but…
*holy smooth segue, I bet no one noticed it.
Rob I have been to Alexandra road estate but I should plan to visit it again soon. Another favourite of mine is the Brunswick Centre.
100% agreed with the statement “I think its mission accomplished when consumers struggle to decide whether they ‘need’ to keep the packaging rather than throw it away.” Some I go back to and think ‘that was really a smart detail’
amaka Hah, I think you are referring to this one?
Cheetosdust I have to confess that one of my pet peeves with tech videos is when the YouTuber chooses violence and just destroys the box. When that happens, there’s usually a teardrop involved. Now, if only there was a Massive Attack fan in this thread.
That comment was made during the night, night after day while the black flowers blossom with feathers on my breath.
Cheetosdust Ah, great to know we have another Massive attack fan in the room. Also agree regarding the way some Youtubers decide to destroy packaging, you wouldn’t catch me doing that.
Hello Nothing Community!
Sorry for the late intro -.-'
Name’s Bruno Viegas, I’m currently based in London. Originally from sunny Portugal (Algarve).
Why did i joined Nothing? Just wanted to be able to say I design Nothing for a living
Jokes aside, I do love to work on consumer electronics. I find it quite interesting to rediscover the role of smart devices in our daily lives and being able to explore new opportunities as our relationship with technology evolves. After working for some years around digital products and innovation, Nothing seemed a good opportunity to build something new and quite distinct from what’s currently out there.
Can’t wait to show what we’ve been working on!
Look forward to collaborate with all of you soon!
Cheers!
B
Hi everyone, it’s great to meet you all and I look forward to being part of the community. My name is Stefano and I’ve recently joined Nothing as a Marketing Project Manager. Before that, I was doing all sorts of brand and marketing stuff at BT and lighting company Anglepoise.
I’m based in East London (and have been for the last 16 years) but I’m originally from Hong Kong. My father was an Italian expat so that also meant some time living in Milan (forza Milan!), Toronto and Bangkok.
I’ve always been a stickler for detail from start to finish - which is what really drew me to Nothing. I think the whole experience from ordering online to what the consumer feels in their hands is really important - from a product’s design all the way down to the instruction booklet. I love it when there’s a story behind objects, which translates to a lot of time wasting when I need to make a purchasing decision…. even for random everyday essentials such as cutlery!
My most memorable piece of technology is probably going to be the Sega Game Gear. It was ahead of its time and was in full colour. I remember being absolutely in awe because it was so much more than my family’s GameBoy and Famicon. However, changing 8x AA batteries every few hours was a massive pain.
In terms of something more contemporary, does anyone remember the 3rd gen. iPod Shuffle? I think it was peak Apple in terms of minimalism. It had a very clean design with distinct edges, and felt like a great feat of engineering. It was also very ambitious to bring out a tiny screen-less device when the trend was to have bigger and larger screens. It was so small that you could literally swallow it, but also meant that you never felt bogged down carrying another device.
Anyway, thanks for spending time to read the above. In the future, you’ll probably catch me posting random stuff in gaming (PS5 + PC gamer), product design and London. Look forward to knowing a bit more about everyone!
Al_ Hello and welcome to the forums.
Really interesting tech choices, I wasn’t aware of any of them and they do sound incredible at what they do.
Olá Bruno Viegas e muito bem-vindo.
I have some great memories of your country, hehe. Here’s to the start of an awesome collaboration filled with memorable moments.
Um grande abraço.
Hey StefanoS, welcome to the forums.
Oh man, that Game Gear brings back so many memories - I still have mine, even if it doesn’t work anymore. It was such an awesome piece of tech, despite eating more batteries than a laptop with a 3070.
I soon realized that I could just play without batteries while the console was being fed by the Mega Drive power brick. Got a little toasty tho.
My parents got me the console with a “4 in 1 pack”, loved every single of those games, especially the rally one.
Hey Everyone!
My name is Max.
1- I am from Germany currently living in London studying at LSE.
2- I really like what Nothing stands for. I have been following the consumer tech space for a while and am starting to get tired of how many products are blending in with each other and getting increasingly less innovative. With Nothing I have a strong feeling that change and innovation are coming back.
3- Not sure how much this counts to being a piece of technology, but since starting to watch Formula 1 this season I have been astonished at how high tech and complex the F1 racecars are. They probably count towards one of my favorite pieces of engineering ever made. This extends into what is currently happening with electric vehicles. The progress that is being made blows my mind and I can’t wait to see how this develops over the years (I mainly drive a Smart EQ fortwo in Germany). But classic cars also have a special place in my heart. My father owning a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible has started to get me involved in the classic car scene and I really enjoy it, there’s not much that makes me smile as much as sitting behind that wheel hearing the sound of that engine.
4- Not from music or movies, but in a Lex Fridman podcast with Ray Dalio one sentence really stood out to me. “What is common produces only common results. Don’t judge anything that is good based on whether it is common, because it is only going to give you common results.”
And this I try to live by.
Thanks to @Rob for helping me join this community space, it was a pleasure meeting you at the Nothing Kiosk for the Limited Edition Ear (1) on Saturday. Also eager to learn more about @Rudi . Curious to hear your story with Nothing and how you became the Community Manager. Thanks for getting me access to this forum
I am quite excited to be part of this community and can’t wait to see what is to come next…
Welcome Max! Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself!
It was a pleasure to meet you on Saturday. Anyone who gets up bright and early to queue in the cold for a Nothing product deserves to be here!
Looking forward to hearing from you across our other threads!
A warm welcome to you, MaxSoliman! I wish I had caught you on Saturday, but I’m sure we’ll have another opportunity.
I also hope you feel at home here in our community and don’t forget to leave your mark in the cool threads we’ve got going. ️
I moved to London, Isle of Dogs in August, from Seattle, WA. I also spend time in Abruzzo, (CH) IT.
I am interested in Nothing because (1) Teenage Engineering (2) natural instinct (3) screenless interface technology (4) the brand / design aesthetic
Jaw dropper - OP-1. The first piece of tech that surprised and delighted me? Downloading Ms. Jackson on Napster…so I guess the iPod? I also had a basic Yamaha keyboard as a child. And of course AIM.
Movie quote / lyric from song ’I’m a cornerboy, hang on the block with my platinum voice.' -MC Romano aka Romano as featured in Siriusmo - Itchy / Cornerboy
Three spirit devices:
The Tron (because a Creative Commons picture of The Setun ternary computer was not available)
Nord (that wood pitch bend and stone mod wheel!)
Furby (since you said batteries!)
I also think mechanical automatons & music boxes are cool.
I strongly believe a pen type device is the consumer electronic of the future. Like a modular community magic wand. No ads! What do you think? Can we please make it happen?
Thanks for reading. Happy to be here. Here is to nothing.
I am here because I just got my black ear(1) 84/100!
NB
Cool text editor!

BlueWhale interesting facts, interesting choice of username. Welcome to our humble abode, the Nothing Community!
FURBIES! thank you for this nostalgic moment. That’s why this is one of my favourite threads around here.
I don’t know the Tron, I’m perplexed. It looks cool, though.
Number 2 should be your business card, you nailed it.
Hello my friends!
I am Stephanie, the motion and graphics designer in our London HQ. I’ve relocated to London from Hong Kong a couple of years ago and see myself sticking around for quite a bit. Honestly, I don’t miss the humidity and tropical heatwaves…
Previous to Nothing, I have worked in advertising agencies, creating campaigns for various brands and businesses. One of my favourite clients was a Swedish Oat Milk brand – by the end of the campaign, they basically converted me and I haven’t had dairy milk since.
It’s exciting to see so many people in the community sharing great insights and contributing to our vision at Nothing. The design thread has also become a part of my bedtime reading lately and I am super keen to discuss all things aesthetics - from when it is actually ok to use Comic Sans, to the hottest spots for soaking up some artsy fartsy goodness.
One of the most underrated pieces of tech is definitely the Digimon Link System. I remember being five years old and getting it for Christmas because I was a diehard fan of the TV show. There are accessories that come with the device, and it becomes a wearable - when you reach a certain step count, you get to fight monsters, WILD!!! It’s basically Strava, but cooler and in the 90’s. Some food for thought eh?

Great to see you here in the forums, thanks for taking the time to say hello! I’m glad you’re a fan of the grey weather here because we sure do have a lot of it!

You mean Oatly? Their creative and copy is always on point. And I’m the same, dairy has pretty much left my diet - oat milk in coffee is the bomb!

I’m looking forward to hearing from you in our design threads - I’m sure your experience will bring some valuable insights - and any exhibition suggestions are very welcome!

Haha, that does sound ahead of its time, and immediately reminds me of 2016 when Pokemon GO had people spending more hours outside than ever before - a cool idea to get people moving.
See you around!
