Gastrodon - Nothing Phone Concept Update

Uday maybe put the camera array a little bit higher so that you have a symmetric spacing with the central-battery glyphs.

Anyway, this is the only render I can see Nothing actually making.. good job😉

I was doing that in the early iterations. Although it would look good that way, I thought the cameras were getting too high that when you shoot videos in landscape mode, most of the times you’d get your fingers on the camera bump. Even the flash module, I had to put it as low as possible for similar reasons.

I also overlayed a Phone 2a just to compare. This is as high as it can go.

I am just about to take out the (almost) final render with all the materials (almost) finalized.

I should ideally do a black one too. But my semester exams are incoming, so I think I’ll have to focus on those for a while. I’ll do the black one and the animations after the break, hopefully maintaining the same motivation 🥲

Also Fr4nKB I did a poll. It is 26% like your method of shooting and 74% like mine. I also have several other good reasons to keep it the way it is now, I’ll elaborate on them later in the breakdown video ☺️

Uday I feel like this is a better concept, looks well balanced. Personally, when shooting videos in landscape, I tend to hold the phone by the edges to totally avoid the problem you are talking about and I guess I’m not the only one.

Yeah, this decision should be based on some research. I’ll do that.

Uday maybe I didn’t explain myself correctly: I usually don’t even use two hands to shoot a video in landscape, one is enough and doesn’t occlude any camera, but when I do I keep the thumb and index finger on the edges while the middle finger is on the back of the phone but at the bottom so, again, no occlusion even with a camera array.

That said is your concept, you should keep it the way you like it😊

Alright folks, here’s the final version before taking my break. I know there are still some flaws in this render, I noted them down but the render times… 🥲(1.5hrs per image). Anyways, I’ll get back to it after a month as soon as my exams end. Keep the feedback coming until then. May be 2-3 more iterations before I proceed to animation.

Fr4nKB Ah, now I get it! I only added those two options in the survey, yet I had two people DM me saying they shoot with one hand. Anyways, I think this is the way to go, as per the short survey.
