Hey Community,
I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve just wrapped up my final board meeting, and here are the updates.
Let’s start with Nothing OS 3.0. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and you have especially appreciated the transparency regarding the open beta release timeline. Though I should mention there are some concerns about the Ndot font removal - with a few requesting at least an option to toggle it. The Nothing team is actively listening to these concerns, and I can say the Ndot font is coming back to the lockscreen with one more easter egg.
Interest in Nothing Phone (3) continues to grow among the community, with some amazing concept arts out there. It’s been a while since we last saw a flagship from Nothing, and I’m personally really bullish on Phone (3) and eagerly looking forward to it. Many users have expressed interest in seeing a dedicated telephoto lens in future models to meet flagship-level photography expectations. The Ear (open) has also been making waves, though I did bring up the pricing concerns from our Indian users to the board.
On the flip side, I have raised the speculations around Phone (2) being discontinued. As of today, there are no official plans around that. I’ve raised several regional concerns during the meeting. Our US community is facing significant issues with carrier compatibility (especially with Verizon and AT&T), stock availability of Phone (2a) and (2a+), and frequent shipping delays through DHL. We’re also seeing strong demand from regions like Iran and Mexico, where users are calling for broader product availability and more local events. I’ve also brought up issues regarding customer service support. The team is actively working to streamline these processes.
Some of our Japanese users have raised issues with the Japanese font for Nothing OS, and there are also requests for FeliCa (NFC) functionality on new phones. The team is looking into this. The delays and lack of communication regarding bug fixes for the CMF Watch Pro have also been brought up, along with requests for improvements to the Phone (2) camera through software refinements.
I also discussed Nothing’s overall brand identity at the board. Some community members have noted a shift from the original minimalist, transparent ethos to a more playful direction that directly aligns with CMF products and their modular approach. The team is already working behind the scenes to sharpen the differentiation between both brands while strengthening Nothing’s core identity. If you’d like to share your thoughts on this, check out the Insight Series (Topic 5) on the community website.
Talking about community, there’s a lot of excitement around the Community Edition project. By the time you read this update, the launch will have already happened. What do you think about the final version of the phone? It’s been inspiring to see how engaged our community is in co-creation efforts. This project truly reflects the power of community collaboration.
As most of you already know, this is my last board meeting, and it’s been a privilege to be your voice at the board this year. The recruitment for the new CBO will begin soon and the Nothing team will share more details in the coming days. I will also join Rob for an AMA session, a great chance for interested candidates to clear all your doubts. Stay tuned for more details to come!
And finally, thank you to the Nothing team for receiving me so well and again to the entire community for supporting me throughout this year. You’ve been like family. I promise to continue adding value to this amazing community. I’ll see you all soon in the chat!
