**Funktionsanfrage 35: Nothings eigene Kommunikations-App-Suite** Sind die Kommunikations-Apps von Google gut genug? -Ich bezweifle. Es vergeht kein Monat, in dem Google Dialer und Messages nicht mit irgendwelchen Fehlern behaftet sind, sei es ein Problem mit der Entladung des Akkus oder das Verschwinden von Tasten nach einem Anruf usw. oder ein kontroverses Problem wie das Senden von Benutzerdaten ohne Erlaubnis. Ich halte die Entwicklung der Dialer-/Telefon-, Kontakt- und Messaging-App von Nothing mit der einzigartigen visuellen Sprache von Nothing für eine kluge Entscheidung, nur um nicht einige Google Apps zu duplizieren, sondern um das Benutzererlebnis zu verbessern.

tucos So selectively, some Google apps are good, some Google apps are bad and we need Nothing to replace the latter? You see where the issue is there? Who decides which apps are good or bad? For example, Google Keep is absolutely goated app, no notes app can replace that, yet you mentioned exactly notes here. Also we even have that - the Essential Space.

Anonymous931 in my past Samsung experience, I was happy using only Samsung apps. I disabled every Google app I had not including a few. Here in Nothing I use most of them cause really there’s no good alternative. I’d like to see Nothing-styled notes app, dialer. It’s alright to me to use Google’s files manager as it has some fun animations tbh or stick with Gmail as it works. But still having these all apps in Nothing style would be great, its fonts, its colours, why not?

Is there any update regarding building your own nothing apps replacing apps like Google dialer, Messages, File manager, Music app, etc.

As other oems once tried to shift to gappps for the dialer and messaging app but they are shifting back as google prioritizes the pixel owners first.

Gallery app was released in January, but it still isn’t default yet, might happen in September patch update. And unless you don’t add cloud backup option in gallery, it is useless. Requesting to add multiple backup options like gdrive, onedrive, mega, or any other.

There are some other issues like heating , battery drain, camera improvement that needs to be addressed quickly as i have stopped recommending nothing devices mainly due to these above reasons.

khanubi cloud backup option… which cloud? Nothing Cloud? Are you interested in deferring the substantial cost of hosting cloud storage by paying a fair subscription price?

khanubi default gallery is already rolling out. plus we have google photos for backup. and I dont think any brand has given third party cloud like mega and stuff integration in gallery. excpet google and apple. also nothing came clean with OS. unlike other OS with bloatwares and ads like xiaomi.

khanubi well I never used google gallery or photos to begin with. it sucks for me. or lets say for most people. else people wouldnt request for gallery app that much. nothing didnt decide one day like yey lets make gallery app. making an android app needs kotlin and jetpack afaik. ever since I got my phone. first thing I did was to disable google photos.

People wants most of the apps by google to be replaced by nothing. Now If they want to replace gapps, they need to be quick .

For gallery to make it default took them 9 months after release, what about other apps

khanubi business doesnt work that way , people want and company gives. and just coz they want other apps doesnt mean company will give. we already have nothing weather, gallery , recorder. no one talks about that. people only want what they dont have. its obvious people will want but i dont think it works that way. and google decides things too FYI. idk much details but you can read about it on reddit, oem tiers. you may understand lil if you want to understand. if youre in that hurry, there are endless videos on kotlin on youtube, make apps on how you want. its pretty simple to understand. idk if you used apple but apple still gives type c 2.0 with that price. people cry about it yet they buy and use phone.

jay_again Apple has already made their position strong with both their hardware and software and btw nothing also gives usb 2.0 with their flagship phone 3.

I don’t know who i am explaining it to, but it is not working.

People who already have nothing phone, it is hard for them to upgrade to new nothing phone as they are way behind than other oem. It has been a year since they gave update related to nothing camera improvement to phone 2, rather it is degrading day by day. They are not even releasing the newer version of their camera app.

They just focus on their newly launched device which make older users hard to upgrade to new nothing device because they know when 1st year passes the shift will be on new device.

Camera improvement is basic thing, they deliberately don’t improve so that they upgrade.

It’s worth to note that Nothing is literally the only existing OEM that does that in Android world. Everyone else is on 3.0 or higher (many with their midrange phones also, not just their flagships) 😁

I was trying to listen to some music on my phone 2a plus and i was disappointed and when i was downloading music colet it made wonder what would nothing music player look like?

BlueWhale I know we are using gmail and those types of important services, but if we were to take a look at phones before, google apps have just surfaced on other phones as default. and it can be annoying.

Anonymous931 The company itself is not at the top ranks, i know , but our COMMUNITY is at the top of any other community for 2 reasons, Product discussion, and Concept Sharing. We can make OUR phone better with OUR ideas, and soon, like Carl Pei’s dream, We will overtake apple in this old race.

P.S @Anonymous931 Not all apps, but at least as much as needed as to say “We aren’t a copy of the google pixel” which sort of looks like it, except for the back visual being a glyph and transparent back. And whenever yu buy a nothing phone, you see on the home screen google apps and google inbuilt apps.

So, in this post, you may post your new ideas for new features, apps, anything that can progress nothing, and at the end of this year, I will request Nothing to listen to our ideas. There is barely anything from Google installed by default; Maps, Calendar, Gmail, Drive, Photos, Meet, Wallet, YouTube & YouTube Music, Messages, Files by Google, Phone/Dialer…

Good luck replacing 80% of that with non-Google apps, so Nothing Maps, Nmail (I guess, so Nothing Mail), Nothing Drive (who’s going to provide all the infrastructure to host that?), NothingTube, NothingTube Music, Nothing Wallet (lol)…

Also where the heck are ads in any of those (sans YT in vids for non-Premium)?

Edit: And, let’s imagine that all those replacement apps were available, how would you use them on non-Nothing phone(s)? How would you access them on your tablet? What about accessing them from your PC (just to remind you, we can’t access the Essential Space from the web at all)?

Samsung has plenty of their own replacement apps to fit One UI design and they are all plain useless trash (but their browser which is superb), including their keyboard. How would Nothing with infinitely smaller budget than Samsung (and Google) make something better, more versatile and more useful? All existing Google apps (sans YouTube which is disaster), those that come with Nothing OS, are as minimal as possible - and they work exceptionally well (especially those like Keep for notes, Calendar, Wallet, Gmail with extensive filtering but without bloat…).

Aesthetics are not everything, especially not when aesthetics in Nothing-style are trying to be everything - but functionality and usability stays unachievable… Yet if you replace just a few like Clock (which is unarguably superb Google’s app), like this and like that, what’s up with the rest of them? They would stand out even more with their non-Nothing OS design style so, again, good luck trying to replace and make them better without being a trillion-$ worth company with its almost infinite budget 🤷‍♂️ How exactly would you replace YouTube with Nothing’s alternative? It’s already black + red btw, so in Nothing’s style, but it’s riddled with ads in each vid if you’re not a YT Premium customer…

Edit 2: Why is there such a focus ONLY on Google’s apps here in Nothing community though? What about other apps, they also do not fit in Nothing’s theme and visual style, so why not make Instagram replacement in Nothing’s style, so Nothingram? Why not replace Reddit? Why… you name it. Why just Google, lmao?
