**Feature Request 35: Nothing's own Communication Suite of Apps** Are Google's Communication Suite of Apps good enough? -I doubt. There isn't a month that Google Dialer and Messages are not riddled with some sort of bugs, be it battery draining issue or buttons disappearing after making a call to someone etc. and some controversial issue like Sending users data without permission. I feel developing Nothing Dialer/Phone, Contacts and Messaging App with Nothing's unique visual language would be a wise decision, just not to duplicate some Google Apps but to better the user experience.

BlueWhale I know we are using gmail and those types of important services, but if we were to take a look at phones before, google apps have just surfaced on other phones as default. and it can be annoying.

P.S @Anonymous931 Not all apps, but at least as much as needed as to say “We aren’t a copy of the google pixel” which sort of looks like it, except for the back visual being a glyph and transparent back. And whenever yu buy a nothing phone, you see on the home screen google apps and google inbuilt apps.

The problem is not with sharing some unarguably great suggestions, concepts and ideas, the problem is when implementing those to reality. And it turns down to money. Just to put things into perspective - if 10 millions of us donate USD 100 each, that will be USD 1 billion. Nothing is far from 10 million users, and 1 billion of US$ is peanut money for Google (about as 10 bucks is for you or for me).

Android is not limited to Google Pixel and to Nothing Phone. Every Android phone has those same apps. People buy Android phones to use those apps and to sync their devices and data across and between them. Even Huawei have implemented workarounds to install Google apps right from the start and people use those.

No one buys a smartphone just to look at it how nice it is and to use a random peculiar app that no one else uses and that is limited to only that single phone, like pretty much all Nothing apps are Nothing exclusive, meaning you cannot install them on Xiaomi, Samsung, Google, Vivo, Huawei, Motorola, Sony, Asus and other phones. Your phone dies or gets lost/stolen - you lose all Nothing-exclusive data because you can’t even back it up (Essential Space for example). Why would anyone want to hassle with that? Why would Nothing as a company be willing to invest billions of $ just to become a super-locked mini-Apple-like ecosystem on Android (which on its own is free as opposed to iOS) and to end up with maybe 50 loyal customers in the end?

What about other apps, they also do not fit in Nothing’s theme and visual style, so why not make Instagram replacement in Nothing’s style, so Nothingram? Why not replace Reddit? Why… you name it. Anonymous931 There is barely anything from Google installed by default; Maps, Calendar, Gmail, Drive, Photos, Meet, Wallet, YouTube & YouTube Music, Messages, Files by Google, Phone/Dialer…

Good luck replacing 80% of that with non-Google apps, so Nothing Maps, Nmail (I guess, so Nothing Mail), Nothing Drive (who’s going to provide all the infrastructure to host that?), NothingTube, NothingTube Music, Nothing Wallet (lol)…

And, let’s imagine that all those replacement apps were available, how would you use them on non-Nothing phone(s)? How would you access them on your tablet? What about accessing them from your PC (just to remind you, we can’t access the Essential Space from the web at all)?

Samsung has plenty of their own replacement apps to fit One UI design and they are all plain useless trash (but their browser which is superb), including their keyboard. How would Nothing with infinitely smaller budget than Samsung (and Google) make something better, more versatile and more useful? All existing Google apps (sans YouTube which is disaster), those that come with Nothing OS, are as minimal as possible - and they work exceptionally well (especially those like Keep for notes, Calendar, Wallet, Gmail with extensive filtering but without bloat…).

Aesthetics are not everything, especially not when aesthetics in Nothing-style are trying to be everything - but functionality and usability stays unachievable… Yet if you replace just a few like Clock (which is unarguably superb Google’s app), like this and like that, what’s up with the rest of them? They would stand out even more with their non-Nothing OS design style so, again, good luck trying to replace and make them better without being a trillion-$ worth company with its almost infinite budget 🤷‍♂️ How exactly would you replace YouTube with Nothing’s alternative?

I guess while seeing community already made an app they would decide not to create that app as it “consists”. And somewhat tells me the Notes app will be an Essential Space function firstz not a single app.

I think nothing should give their Own dialer instead of Google dialer every big player in this market gives their own dialer so nothing should design a badass dialer

In Google Dailler when we try to record any call they made a announcement “ Your call is start recorded” Sometime I don’t want to let them know.

Like in other brands phone Samsung, Oneplus, Vivo, Oppo, Mi, Realme, Poco etc there is no announcement when we record a call, because they have their own Dailler and providing this this functionality to their user & this is very useful feature.

Nothing you have to create own Dailler too or you can provide this feature in Google Dailler if possible otherwise you to create a brand new Dailler for nothing users…this is my feedback.

jay_again The only benefit of having a nothing developed dialer would be integration of the call recording widget feature i.e. recording without announcement or annoying ping sound that the Google dialer has and maybe a visual overhaul using Nothing’s colour schemes and fonts like the dot matrix font or the serif font they use on our Nothing devices

What’s the obsession with “Nothing aesthetics” just for Google apps? Why not Instagram in “Nothing aesthetics”? Why not Soundcloud, Discord, messaging apps, Facebook, Reddit, heck why not games also in “Nothing aesthetics”? Why only and ONLY Google apps?

(and then those same people want Google’s design like M3E everywhere in the UI, but it must follow “Nothing aesthetics”, but be fully M3E… 😵)

That’s illegal in most of the world though. Even for India, where many Nothing users are, it says the following:

“It is not criminal for a person to record a phone call in which they are themselves a participant without consent from the other parties although the recorders may be liable to legal action if the other party considers the action to be a breach of their privacy. However, the recording of phone calls in which the recorders are not themselves participating is illegal and prohibited by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution unless the person recording has prior consent from the participants of the call.”

shadoe17 well, they cant just wake up and say , yey lets make dialer with recording, theres law and all they have to follow. plus I dont think thats needed. google dialer works well. you can now replace announcement with just beep. so

It would be nice to have the Nothing aesthetic on you’re apps, so I agree with @SamarYadav Until Nothing makes they’re own official ones, there are a few third-party ones by “hearthstone” like Ncalc (calculator app), Nothing Notes (notes app), and N Dial (dialer app), that you could use in the meantime. However, the dialer is not compatible with my phone, the 3a, as stated in the Play Store. Nevertheless, you could try it with your phone, as it doesn’t prevent you from downloading the app.

Anonymous931 I can kind of accept that some apps are the basic of a phone device (call, message, contacts for calls and messages and now photos since every phone have cameras built in), in opposite to optional apps that every users can choose to use or not like Facebook, YouTube etc… So yes a phone brand can have his own way to display basic phone uses to make it feels attached to his brand.

Anonymous931 Yea it’s illegal but in India they do it regardless i.e. it’s a feature many want, Samsung dialer has this feature baked in which I’m talking about so there’s definitely a market for it, I also think Vivo devices also have this feature, maybe oppo too? Not sure about oppo though.

I really have nothing against that, absolutely nothing, I personally wouldn’t mind if there was every single Nothing alternative for Google apps. If the design team at Nothing has time and freedom to do it then please go ahead.

I’m just curious why are people in the Nothing community so conflicting so we have:

Nothing releasing stuff in Nothing aesthetics: People go “The new update is boring, look at how fun Material 3 Expressive is, we need that, not this outdated trash! Add colours, transparency, blur, or Nothing will die as a company!!”
Google apps get updated to Material 3 Expressive: (Same) people go: “We need Nothing aesthetics, minimalism, not this colourful trash! Nothing is losing their loyal fanbase…”
