Give Nothing for Christmas.

I would gift a pair to my good friend @Al_, who recently quit his job and has been training hard to become an electrician. He’s motivated by our transition into a greener society and hopes to be installing EV chargers and solar arrays once qualified - super cool!

He’ll need a pair of ear (1) so I can chat to him on Discord whilst he’s wiring up someone’s house. Good luck in those exams today, bud!

I’d like to suggest my wife Mel. She’s the sweetest, nicest person I know (and make me a better man).

She cares many times a week for her elderly father who has many health issues, but still works (with the public as she’s a receptionist at a Veterinary centre) through difficult covid times and is always compassionate and caring with the clients (and other staff members). She’s my hero so who better!

I’d like to gift ear(1) to my wife, who has been the most amazing mother to our two growing boys (3 year old and a 5 month old). She is really into her ASMR/relaxing sounds and by giving her the amazing ear(1)s, she would be able to enjoy this relaxation time in a bit more peace and quiet. She’s currently stuck with the basic iPhone earphones you get in the box, which really wind me up!

Furthermore, and a more selfish note from me, it also means she can do her Facetimes via earphones and not on loudspeaker, which is annoying as F

I’m gonna be a bit cheeky here but I’d love for @anunayC to get a pair of the ear (1) black edition for quite a few reasons.

We met through the OnePlus community like many here and just got talking actively around the introduction of Nothing. Although we’ve known each other for only a year or so, he’s always been very kind and supportive. His latest act of kindness was getting me into the community He’s also probably one of the most enthusiastic people I’ve spoken to when it comes to Nothing, which is pretty evident from how active and contributive he is in the community.

SUPER FUN FACT: He’s the top listener on Spotify in India. That’s 1 out of 2,000,000+ users. From that fact, it’s obvious that Anunay loves music (a bit too much if you ask me ). What’s the best gift for a person that listens to music at the same frequency of breathing? You guessed it

My gift would go to my very close friend Lennart.  

Our friendship started to really get closer when we spent three months abroad in a boarding school a year after we met. Being neighbors in Germany where we both grew up, we started spending much more time together inside and outside of school, growing a close bond. After moving out of his parents’ house, he lived with my family for about 6 months until he moved into his own apartment.

Lennart, who is now more of a brother to me, applied to study in Australia (a country he always dreamt of living in) in 2019. But as 2020 came and COVID introduced travel issues, not even his university acceptance would grant him entry into the country with the tightest boarder restrictions. Finally, after 1.5 years of online university, he just moved to Australia last week. 

Now I think he would enjoy a pair in this giveaway so that I can hear him clearly thanks to the three hybrid mics, and we can stay in contact despite the big time zone difference. I’d like to give him this gift as a present to new success in a new country.

If I were to win this giveaway I would love to gift a pair of ear(1) to my twin brother. He’s an auto mechanic who just completed his professional certification. He loves his job and spends lots of late nights doing extra work to help out at his garage so I don’t see him as often as I used to, but the times we spend together are still the best when we can.

Just last week he cut his hand open badly enough to need 11 stitches while repairing our washing machine that had stopped working so he’s had to take time off of his job for a little while. He could really use something to cheer him up so Nothing would be the perfect gift

Dear Mr. Santa,

If I were to win this give away, I would really want to gift ear(1) to my dad. He recently got retired and he just turned 60 yesterday (21 Dec)!!! He worked for 33 years away from his family and is one of the best people to learn from.

He spends most of his time learning stuff on YouTube or listening to music. The new earbuds could really help him try the wireless tech and yeah … He would love it!!

Even though it is a bit cheesy, I would gift the ear (1) to my girlfriend. She recently moved to Germany from the UK to start her masters and move together despite all the added pain brexit brings to this. All this, just to have to study online from home while I am also working fully remote, meaning she is attending classes and studies while I am on calls quite a few times a day. As a student and a bit of a cheapskate, she didn’t want or get decent headphones yet. As it looks like online studies will stick around a bit longer I think the ear (1) will bring quite a bit of added lifequality as a decent headphone with ANC will block most of the noise and she will be able to focus better and attend classes with better quality audio. I am once she has some, she wouldn’t want to miss them anymore.

A special thanks to @Rudi for taking the time to start this thread and for taking his energy to make it possible - even with some very, very - very! - questionable puns, ha. And a thank you to everyone who shared their messages, some beautiful pieces of heart so far. Here’s my participation:

For my brother.

We grew together to grow apart and together again. Life happened: moving, uncontrollable pieces, with me always eight years ahead of him. Sans Spotify, my discoveries trickling down to him, one band at a time, most of them sticking to this day.

Music then, useful and well-timed centerpiece. My brother then, a force who moves. To be the example inspired by the example, a swirl of good intentions trying to not disappoint. Music - then - as the excuse to start any given conversation that landed in two-way advice.

“How is life? Have you heard the latest from Porcupine Tree?”

“Yes” or “No”, it doesn’t matter. We will listen to whatever the other recommends. It’s the “oh, that reminded of” afterwards that counts. That share bringing two brothers together, jump-starting the sporadic reunion, from the triviality to the deepest we can dig to help.

Time can have its own tide. Music is our oars against it.

This computer where I am typing this exists because of his help. We influence the best versions of ourselves and the ear (1) would be a way to influence the way he consumes music. They certainly influenced the way I consume mine, the same bands that he listens to before asking how life is.

May b I am a bit late, but still want to add my entry. Want to gift it @harsh . He used to have such good conversations here earlier. It was so nice to follow the first ear(1) launch with all including Harsh. Lets gift ear(1) to him, so that he can cancel the noise and hear all of us clearly and with transparency.
