So I recently received my ear(1) blacks and have instantly fallen in love with them, so big 👍🏻 to the Nothing team for that.
However, nothing in this world is perfect and I think a big addition to the ear(1)/app functionality would be the ability to customise Taps, or add additional taps.
Currently
At present, you have 3 options (same for both ears) in terms of what your taps can do:
- Tapping three times takes you to the next track.
- Tapping twice pauses the sound (or answers or disconnects a call)
- Tapping and long pressing activate active noise cancelation or transparency mode.
Customisable options for these are listed, which leads me to my idea…
Proposal
Having the ability to customise what your taps do (and how many) would be an amazing addition to both the app and the buds themselves
For instance, I am a user that won’t be changing my ANC level (it’s going to always be on). Therefore, tapping and long press for me at the moment is useless when it doesn’t need to be.
The ability to add something useful, like Google Assistant functionality by tap and long pressing would be really useful. Not only does that mean I’d be able to change what my gestures do, it also makes me able to rely further on my ear(1) and not have to do things via my mobile.
Other things to note that might be cool, would be to have more features for the other gestures, such as tapping twice on the left/right can do different things than just change tracks - the left could control opening your favourite contact as a call whilst the right still does all the music controls…just a thought.
Anyway, that’s my idea and appreciate it might be something that was excluded for particular reasons, but it would make these even better if possible.
