Good point. The device security team should take this seriously.

  1. When the phone is locked, we can switch off both WIFI and Mobile Data. If stolen, the phone is not secure.
  2. But a Quick Widget pointing to a calculator cannot be started from the lockscreen, forcing an unlock.

So to start Calculator one needs to unlock, but to switch off Wifi/Mobile data, no need to unlock.

Nothing team, get your security policy in place. Just look at Samsung. They have it nailed down.

I can understand that Android phones (and even iPhones) provide an option if the phone ever freezes; so they assign a combination of buttons that can be used to turn off/restart the phone from the lock screen.

However, adding this layer of security (similar to Samsung’s, and even enhancing it) of simply prompting for the PIN when attempting to turn the phone off would be an amazing feature.

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased the Nothing Phone 2a and have been very impressed with its features and performance so far. However, I noticed a significant security concern that I believe many users might also find important.

Currently, the Nothing Phone 2a does not require a password or any form of authentication to power off the device. This poses a risk in situations where the phone is lost or stolen, as the person who finds or steals the phone can easily turn it off, rendering any tracking or remote access features useless.

I believe it would greatly enhance the security of the device if Nothing could implement a feature that requires a password to power off the phone. This would prevent unauthorized shutdowns and increase the chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone.

Has anyone else experienced this concern? What are your thoughts on this potential security feature? I hope Nothing considers adding this in future updates.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

It would be more secure if the nothing phones ask for password before turning the POWER OFF. It would prevent the phones from turning off after theft. It will also provide time for the owner to track the phone, which will not be possible if the mobile is switched off. I think NOTHING brand should start working on their device security if they want to compete with APPLE in the long run.
