I recently purchased the Nothing Phone 3A, and while everything seems to be working fine, I noticed a weird issue with the microphone during WhatsApp calls. People can hear me clearly when I speak normally. However, whenever I laugh, they can’t hear me at all it’s as if my voice is getting completely muted.

I’ve tested this on multiple calls, and every time I laugh, the audio just cuts out for the other person. It only happens on WhatsApp calls, not on regular phone calls or other apps. Troubleshooting steps I’ve tried:

- Checked mic permissions for WhatsApp

- Restarted the phone

- Updated WhatsApp to the latest version

Has anyone else experienced this? Could this be some kind of noise suppression issue or a bug with WhatsApp on the Nothing Phone 3A? Would appreciate any insights or potential fixes!

Hi all,

I have been encountering some issues when video calling with WhatsApp. It seems that during the video call my daughters voice gets filtered out. The person I’m calling with can only hear me and not her. I only started having this issue on this phone. So I assumed it has to do with the combination of WhatsApp and the phone 3a.

I can’t seem to find any settings to change. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Same issue happens with my Nothing 3a. The normal call works fine. WhatsApp and other internet video calls mutes some voice like kids voice, laughing etc. It recognizes the voice only when my kid speaks so slowly. It’s fine if the noise cancellation is working properly but this is too much to mute kids voice laughing etc.

Hope Nothing will resolve this issue in coming updates. Dear Nothing people do Something !!!!

Just got nothing 3a 2 days ago, and it’s cancelling my daughter’s voice out during Whatsapp calls as well, can’t find a way to disable this behaviour, if it’s a bug I hope it gets fixed soon, it’s a very problematic.

We bought Nothing 3a 6 days ago from flipkart, We are having the same issue, (The adult voice is clear the surrounding voice especially kids voice is eradicating not at all audible to the callers. Any solution for this? Dear Nothing this is a serious bug fix it ASAP.

Also we found this issue with in the valid return policy (still one day to go) but the flip kart denied the return of the phone and directing to the service center. Which is not acceptable.

Has anyone found a workaround for this annoying issue?

  1. Connect your earbuds via Bluetooth.

  2. Open the Nothing X app and turn off noise cancellation.

  3. Call the person using your preferred messaging app (without disconnecting the earbuds).

  4. During the call, switch the audio output to “Speaker” in the call options (without disconnecting the earbuds).

It helps. But I’m using Nothing Ear (3). Not sure if this works with other earbuds, but theoretically, it should.
