Co-Create an Edition of Phone (3a) with us

We’re excited to be bringing back the Community Edition Project for another year! Last year’s glow in the dark Phone (2a) sold out online in just 15 mins, and our winners are now iF Gold Award winners! 🌟
This year we are inviting you, our community, to submit your ideas on how you would re-imagine the following elements of Phone (3a):
📱Hardware Design - dream up a new look (through colour, material and finish) for Phone (3a) and have your say on the look of the packaging.
👩🏽💻 Software Design - ideate new software design elements to deliver a unique on-screen experience. Think widgets, wallpapers and clock faces!
🧢 Accessory - develop an exclusive accessory or collectible to accompany Phone (3a) Community Edition.
🎬 Marketing Campaign - submit a creative proposal that’ll launch (3a) Community Edition to the world.
You can submit your idea for multiple briefs, but we advise spending time on one well-researched idea before moving on to another.
Submissions are open from now until April 23, 11am BST - you can view more info and instructions, top tips and briefs here on nothing.tech!

Concepts from the Community
In the spirit of co-creation, we thought we’d highlight some of the amazing work we’ve seen from our members this month.
First up is an amazing Phone (3) design concept by @Derren - one of our community moderators and prolific concept creators! With inspiration drawn from metallic textures, Super Mario coins and even the Analogue Pocket, Derren has created some 3D magic! You can read all about his design process here.

Next up, we saw a fantastic CMF Phone 2 Concept by @Sergey Popovich, which builds upon the modularity of CMF Phone 1 and its interchangeable accessories - you can read more about it here.

Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are Out!
At the beginning of March, we launched the Phone (3a) Series. This has been an incredibly fun launch for the team, and we’re glad to see such a great reception both online and at in-person drops events in Berlin, London, Paris, plus the Community party and photo walk in Mumbai!

Since the launch, we’ve also shipped some exciting improvements to both devices; check out the latest 3.1 changelog here. The big story here is that the Essential Key can now be used directly within the Nothing Camera app; capturing real-world content directly with a short press to add a note or a long press for voice input.
If you’re curious, we published a series of teardown photos of the internals of Phone (3a) Pro. You can view all the images here, and there’s even a Phone (3a) giveaway that’s live until April 3rd, 11am BST.

Women in Design Panel & Clocking up the Kilometers with Run Clubs
We’ve been connecting with our London community in-person this month - not only with the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro drops at our Soho Store, but also with three special events!

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we brought together over 100 guests from the creative, design and tech industries and hosted our first Women in Design panel, in collaboration with The Z Link. Our panelists spoke on a broad range of topics including how the product design industry has historically left women out of testing; colour theory and difference in the design process between the fashion and tech industries; how we can gain inspiration from things around us (even cereal box CD-ROMs!) and some fantastic portfolio advice.
After the event, guests had the chance to meet new people, connect with our panelists, and meet the team at Nothing. It was a really inspirational event for many people - we hope to catch you at the next one! A huge shoutout to our panelists Lucy Birley, Astrid Vanhuyse and Rifke Sadleir for sharing their knowledge and insights with us.

This past weekend, we also joined Chris, founder of Run Your Mind, for his 22nd consecutive half marathon out of 30, for his 30 Halves in 30 Days challenge. The London weather blessed us with some sunshine, as the group ran a gorgeous route that took us past the river Thames, through Hyde Park, and Soho. Athene Club also hosted a race day nutrition workshop and a 10km run earlier in the month.

Nothing Library: Podcast & Book Recommendations from the Nothing Team
Last month, we got two amazing media recommendations from our team. Here are some more books and podcasts that are keeping the team busy and inspired this month. Let us know what you’re reading or listening to down below!
Book - How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie - recommended by Hannah, Creative Team
I’m loving this book! It teaches the art of building meaningful relationships and influencing others by showing genuine interest, offering sincere appreciation, avoiding criticism, and understanding others’ perspectives - everyone should read it.
Podcast - Hidden Brain - recommended by SingYu, Software Team
Hidden Brain is a podcast covering psychology, interviews with researchers, and the interesting and sometimes non-intuitive results about how our brains work.
