MonocleRB You can’t really get rid of the proprietary, closed system though. You can only disrupt it. This is Nothing providing a bridge, an additional option, to the many who feel handcuffed to Apple. Especially in the US where the numbers are quite staggering for Android VS iPhone, with nearly 90% of teens on iPhone primarily because of iMessage and the stigma that comes with not having iMessage here. Having the option to choose which device you personally prefer while still being able to connect with those you care about without barriers is awesome. This isn’t Nothing saying Android isn’t good enough or isn’t superior to Apple, it’s Nothing saying we’re all equal and communication should equally be free for all to connect.

Kyle just saw the video of Marques (MKBHD) on Twitter about this. Congratulations Nothing on this breakthrough.

Just wondering though, how safe this would be, for people to login with their Apple ID’s, on this Chat App, while the server is kinda doing its thing, while you put your credentials in it, although messages are supposed to be encrypted and all. But still, Sharing my login details on an App.. well.. 👀.

May be the real question is, How critical it is for them? The TA.

As an American student, this is HUGE. It’s not only about the “blue bubbles” but the if this is what I’m thinking it is, it also means group chats with iPhone and to me that seems like a good innovation no matter how you look at it. Conforming to Apple? Not really, I see it as more of, if apple won’t open up it’s messages to us, we’ll make our way into theirs. I’m especially excited for this not just to get out of Google messages, (please release gallery app soon too 😃) but also maybe(?) The possibility of playing game pigeon, which is an especially fun way to connect with new and old friends!

This is exciting, another attempt from Nothing to break the boundaries of the tech industry. As the only Android user in the family, I will be sure to test this across my iMessage users and other friends who are also tied to Apple. Excited to watch the continued progress in this too.

I think it’s a great move. Nothing should not be only a tech company, but a Software too.

Anonymous340 From the announcement, I’m hoping that the statement Carl made about Sunbird is that they are just the developers of the software. I would think Nothing would keep those safeguards up. I think the folks at Nothing have safety

Will it come to the phone 1

would this be available for the phone 1 users down the road. early 2024 maybe ? 🤔

Hi All- much more to come on this, look out for an AMA early next week where I look forward to chatting with everyone on this, stay tuned for details on that from @Rob ⚡️

RoddyMerritt Messages may stay on device to Carls point, but your iCloud ID which is required to set this up, is logged into a Mac virtually in a warehouse which is how Sunbird is able to actually do this. Beeper does the same. So your iCloud ID is signed into a remote Mac, hopefully secure so no one can access it physically or virtually. A lot of potential risk there.

HiddeVanderGoot I know right! This is really exiting. I’m pretty sure they would release it on the phone 1 too! I also think that only after its completely tested, stable and optimized based on the reviews given by the phone 2 users soon this year is when they would release it for the phone 1 users early next year.

    I. Love. This. Take the fight to them. There is some major potential here for the “Nothing Chat”. Would be a game changer if Nothing is able to consolidate major chats/texting into one app as well as put pressure on Apple to stop this immoral green bubble bullying game.

Nobody saw this coming, but it is a great move.

Hope to see it on Phone (1) too.

What a great company to support by using and purchasing! Great products, amazing software, bring technology together ❤️ nothing!!

Kyle dang! I’ve been a sunbird user since day 1 of launch and I am so exited to see nothing adoped a custom version! Ggs
