To the Nothing Community and Development Team,
I would like to raise a specific usability concern regarding the Essential feature on the Nothing Phone; particularly the physical key that is currently hardwired to launch the Essential app.
While the app itself may be useful to some, it does not fit my daily usage. I rarely use my phone for jotting down ideas, and I prefer the standard voice recorder app when needed. That said, this petition is not about the Essential app or its features. Users who like the app should be free to use it without restriction.
The core issue is this:
The physical switch should not be locked to the Essential app. It should be remappable, allowing users to assign other functions; such as launching the camera, turning on the flashlight, or opening a preferred app.
This is a matter of basic user flexibility. Physical controls are valuable and should adapt to different use cases. Locking them to a single app limits the potential of the device.
Request:
- Make the Essential key gestures fully remappable.
- Do not treat this request as a feature suggestion for the Essential app itself. This is a request about hardware control and user freedom, not app functionality.
If you support keeping physical controls user-configurable and separate from fixed software features, please add your voice to this petition.
