Phone (1) Update Policy - Question

Hi,

I just want to make sure phone 1 update policy. nowadays the phone have battery draining as well as display freeze and sometimes connectivity issues too, so I am looking forward to hearing from you.

After February there were no updates

naveenps996 I was facing battery drain issue since last year and no support from nothing so decided to use custom rom now onwards and battery is performing best now easily lasts for 1 day apart no issue when using stock rom

We will receive update this month April security patch

naveenps996 Hi, Nothing Phone (1) won’t receive any further major updates. Maybe it will still get OS 3.1 at some point.

The next security update should be released later this month: Nothing typically releases them every two months and NP1 is on a schedule for even months, February, April, June,…

Phone 1 no longer receives updates, I think only security updates are left

Agree, I tried disabling unnecessary background apps which slightly improved the battery, but still not enough to fix the major draining issue. Additionally, I check from Google Pixel forums as the users also suffer battery draining issues on Android 15, they suspected that Google Play Services could be the major cause of the issues as it’s constantly running in the background.

I hope Nothing notices this issue and probably try to investigate the root cause 😢.

I guess it will receive updates until os 4 is not released. The software is still buggy and the camera is worst. Logically, all updates until 3.9 should be there. It would be sad if they stop it now without resolving the issues. Moreover, I won’t recommend anyone buying it’s products either.

Wolverine opposite is with custom roms they are soo much better than stock os in every aspect specially battery backup on nothing phone 1

SamarthNP1 Have you tried using custom roms on the Nothing Phone (1), if yes, what roms do you personally recommend ? Does the glyph lights work as normally on custom roms ? Thanks

syafiqzen I am using derpfest os and yes glyphs work

There are other roms like lineage os , pixel os , axion , rising , voltage etc all of them have different features and all so choose the one which you like and is feature rich

I would recommend pixel os and derpfest os they are good and get updated frequently while having all the essential features and customisations

IIRC, the NP(1) was released in July 2022. So, according to the software update policy, it probably won’t get any more major Android updates (e.g. A16), but should receive security updates until July 2026.

Maybe Nothing will surprise us with NOS3.5 or above before then, who knows.

TeeEeeBee that’s what I am saying. There won’t be any further updates like Android 17, but those until 3.9 should be there to cover fixes and offer newer features. Security monthly patches are different from the same though both will come together.

Wolverine bro nothing os 3.5 is gonna be based on Android 16 so sorry to say but OS 3.0 (or3.1) would be the end for phone 1 😔

rasikkondvilkar79 yeah, that’s also the right thing to say. This would surely mean that we would be left with a ridiculously worse camera. Way to go, Carl Pei.

Maybe Nothing Os 3.5 will be besed on Android 15 for Nothing phone (1) due its expired Andorid software support. I think because Nothing gives Phone (1) support to July 2026, it will get like Nothing Os 4.0 based on Android 15. Same as the like Xioami, back than i have Xiaomi redmi 8 which have MIUI 12.5 based on Android 10, but MIUI 12.5 is based and develop on Android 11. Maybe the same thing will happen for Phone (1).
