© IPhone Users (real vs. Internet) give differing accounts. Some say “back swipe gesture while onscreen keyboards work”, my RL friends say NOPE, e.g. Iphone14Pro Max.
(d) as of now, today 2024 April – Samsung is the only one, phone maker brand offering YES, back swipe to last previous screen action while onscreen keyboard is active, as far back as 2021. Many accounts of Samsung users request via different feedback avenues and posts in 2020.

Just a quick update.
Fired up my 7-day-UNused Oneplus 7T Pro phone for a quick 5-mins tryout.
… back swipe gesture “works” bcoz of the 7T Pro design, curved edges.
Technically, back side swipe gesture requires,
(1) 2 clicks/swipes needed to close onscreen keyboard, plus return to last phone screen action. The truth is it requires 2 quick muscle memory swipes to back -and- back effortlessly. First back to remove onscreen keyboard, 2nd back to return to last screen action.
(2) But YES – Oneplus 7T Pro allows users to gesture Side swipe back on area of onscreen keyboard, because of hardware design – curved edges of phone cross matches good software Oxygen OS.
Fatigued me concludes helplessly … (sadly),
it’s the bad implementation of Android OS gestures tech. and /or onscreen keyboard devs unable(unwilling) to figure out the human behavioural sciences and lacking technology creativity – to provide Android phone users, one-click, one-side back swipe gesture across onscreen keyboard areas, on today’s modern touchscreens.
