Hello guys. It’s been a while since I posted. Yet I am back with a delightful topic to discuss.
Metaverse - A metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. In futurism and science fiction, the term is often described as a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual and augmented reality headsets. The term “metaverse” has its origins in the 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash as a portmanteau of "meta“ and ”universe. (Source – Wikipedia).
Let’s not talk about it technically. We all know that a few months ago Facebook announced that they are changing their name to Meta. Most people don’t know what that means and what it is, so let’s talk about it.
The metaverse is going to change people’s lives forever. We are already ahead of technology using smartphones, headphones, smartwatches etc. Metaverse is what comes next. An internet that you are not just looking at on a screen, but that you’re actually inside of. You can feel things (possible) and experience the things you actually want to do. You can live out your fantasies every day. You won’t just have an image, you can have an avatar, the character you want to be in your life. Ever heard of teleportation? It can be done (not in the real world of course).
Let’s also talk about the downsides of a metaverse.
1) Privacy – Come on, we know how Facebook (Meta) is right now. I am not against it. But, in recent times there has been huge data and privacy leaks. Other metaverse worlds can also monitor each and every move we make there. According to that, we may get ads on real social platforms. If you get ads based upon your interest (you know what I mean).
2) Focused content – In the metaverse they have the chance to show the content that they want to show us. So, there is a chance that we can forget the things we like in the real world. They can own the complete sense of reality in that world.
3) Fear – I talked about how beautiful the metaverse could be. Let’s say you spent your few days entirely in the metaverse. When you come out of that world and see the real world, would you like it? I bet not.
4) Addiction – We are already addicted to almost all social media platforms. Wouldn’t a metaverse exaggerate the problem?
There is so much to discuss about this. But I can’t dump my whole perspective about it. What are your thoughts on this? And where does NOTHING stand in this as they are already adopting web3?
