Say hi, hey and hello to Google, Alexa and Siri.

You can now wake up voice assistance by tapping your earbuds three times. So you can say hi to your mum, dad and friends, hands-free.

To activate, go to Triple Taps in Gesture Controls and choose Voice Assistant.
Let it take care of everything else – you just need to update your ear (1) firmware.

What else is new?

  • Your ear (1) now connects really well to third-party apps and laptops. Like really well.

  • Switching the connection of ear (1) between multiple devices like your phone and laptop? No problem, because stability is stronger than ever. Phew.

  • The battery display of ear (1) in your app is now even more accurate.

  • The In-Ear Detection switch in the app had some bugs, but now that’s been fixed. That means you can now turn it on and off whenever you want.

To access these new updates, just open your ear (1) app, tap on the red dot in the menu and follow the instructions.

But remember! If the red dot is missing, it’s ok – our updates are gradual, they roll out at different times. Keep an eye out for it and let us know when you get it, right here on this topic.

That’s a pretty good update! I was thinking maybe an estimate of how long of listening time you have left with our average consumption. Sometimes it’s hard to gage with percentage if you have to put them back in the case to top up or you can finish that movie.

Great update - exactly what people have been asking for!

I’d love to see a little more granular customisation. Both EQ and gesture assignment settings could benefit from a few more options - but that’s just me being picky!

Akis Good update, something many users were after (myself included). I think another improvement could be a little more customisation with the gesture features:

e.g. What if I wanted to ‘Tap & Hold’ for my Google Assistant feature? Or perhaps a ‘Tap & Hold’ could allow me to call my favourite person instantly.

The only other things are probably quite specific to certain people. Firstly, is the ability to control the EQ adjustments a little finer, as @Rob ⚡️ pointed out.

Secondly, some customisation over how sensitive the ‘In-Ear Detection’ mode is. I go running regularly and have found that I had to turn this feature off to prevent random song pausing, which is a shame because when I’m not running this is a great feature that works really well! So just having that choice to not have to keep turning it on/off all the time but to adjust the sensitivity might make it better? @Daywalker also had similar feedback on this topic.

@Surya_8055 I think you had some points regarding this feature I saw in a post, around slight lag between removing ear(1) and putting it back in your ear? Could fall under the sensitivity customisation bracket.

Akis While the ear(1) are doing quite good, but given you asked about the next change…i think i would prefer a more differentiated sound while the buds toggle between normal, transparency and noise cancellation. Even after almost 6months, not able to identify the mode. Always have to check in the app.

Also, i think @RobIgo had a good idea about adding a feature to reactivate a earbud which has gone to sleep, that too without using the case. @RobIgo if you want to add

Yeah can just agree, great update!

Also would like to see a better EQ to be honest. The actual presets could still be presets but everyone has a different music taste so might would like to adjust it a little more here and there!

Akis being a huge fan of Teenage Engineering and their Pocket Operators, I would love to have some type of “live play” sound options within the all so I could potentially play along with the music that I’m listening to or and advanced equalizer that I can mess with similar to a DJ mode. But as those ideas sound like they can be projects of their own, what I would like to immediately see what the ear 1s are dual connection as well as opening up the touch customization like everyone else has mentioned.

Rudi Your ear (1) now connects really well to third-party apps and laptops. Like really well.

Just updated, and the experience switching between my iPhone an Mac is now butter smooth. Well done.

Will come back with more comments as I try them out

Akis What should we bring next to ear (1)?

In terms of features, other than what the others above commented (which I totally agree on), it would be great if you could have some additional controls within the app and on the buds. Let’s split this suggestion into two main parts for more clarity (realizing my post became quite mixed between the two):

        • Settings within the app so that I can choose which source to connect to.

I’m not always sure which device is currently connected. On iPhone for example, checking if the device is connected takes some seconds by navigating down the settings tree and if it is not connected its connected to some of my other devices. On my Mac it only takes half a second or so by moving the cursor to the top right where I can click to see sound channels, its a lot easier to see if it is connected to it. If I had the feature to see my connections within the app I would have full control over which device is currently connected and I can also switch devices if I want to, without having to guess which device its connected to, and if it was not it I need to go to the other devices to check. UPDATE: Enhancing the experience even more at the very bottom of this post.

        • Gesture (tap+long hold or toggle pair button on the case, could possibly be customized) on the buds/case to toggle between devices. The buds could give me sound feedback when switching devices, so I don’t need to open any settings or app to check which one is currently connected.

A suggestion could be to be able to toggle on the earbud itself or the case with some gesture to connect to the previously connected Bluetooth device, or similar, but also have the tools within the app to maybe switch to either source (what my Bose headphones are able to do by toggling the pair button). Idk if there are any technical limitations as of right now with the Ear(1) for doing something like this, but in either case, something I feel would really enhance my experience.

        ———

UPDATE: another thing I realized after writing this is that if I were able to choose source connections within the app, it would also be neat if I could arrange them in priority. For example, I often sit at my office desk where both my phone and computer are located. I don’t know the rule for which device the Ear(1) today will first try to connect to, or if this is totally random (my experience is that it could be random), but if it is random I could then re-arrange in the app that it should pick my computer as priority 1 if both my phone and computer are found. By doing this I can have control for which device will (probably, if both are able to connect without glitches) be connected in this specific scenario when I’m at my desk. When not at my desk, I know it will not find my computer so then connect to my phone. This sounds like a very trivial problem, but in terms of smoothness, it is hard today (without having to look in the settings for both devices) to know which device it is currently connected to. Maybe also a voice could be incorporated into the sound of switching device “Filip’s MacBook connected” which is really neat feedback that my Bose headphones give me. Then I always know which device I’m connected to without having to open the app or any settings.

Everyone has really covered everything positive about the update.
Something I still find an issue with this update is In-ear detection. I find the audio pauses randomly while I am walking.

Additional feature requests that would improve the overall experience:

        • Switching between 2 devices has gotten much easier which I love! A dual connection feature would be much appreciated.
        • Audio EQ settings is something I have been hesitant to change since the beginning, with only a couple options to choose from. I’d like to have some way to do some minute fine tuning.
        • More ways to activate the Assistant. Been playing around with the new update, Walking in -10°C with cold hands, I found triple tapping the stem of the ear(1) very hard to invoke. Maybe holding down the stem would be easier.

arpan2308 While the ear(1) are doing quite good, but given you asked about the next change…i think i would prefer a more differentiated sound while the buds toggle between normal, transparency and noise cancellation. This is a really good point by @arpan2308. I really love the connection, disconnection and other sound effects. A differentiation sound effect between modes would help a lot.

anunayC Additionally, I noticed the Play, Pause and Next/Previous track sound cue are very similar. I often get confused whether the music has paused or if I’ve skipped the track accidentally etc.

Just me nitpicking but I hope this helps! 😉

Hey @Rudi , do you know why we can only set the triple tap for voice assistants? I find that a pretty unintuitive one and am missing the skip. Long press for me would be the obvious choice, and I never switch off the NC anyways. Unclear why this is not an option…
