GPS Drops after ~1 hour of Navigation

Recently my phone has started dropping GPS after about 1 hours of using navigation.

I have to perform devices restart in order to get the GPS back.

This is now happening everytime I use maps for a long journey.

I have also noticed the device getting very hot, even if I turn screen brightness right down.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Haven’t seen this. I sometimes drive London to Munich without any issues.

Even changing providers while roaming as I change countries works fine.

Today I am driving to 3 and half hour, so far no drops.

Majored difference is that I am in my car and the phone is placed directly in front of AC vent. And is not hot.

This leading me think it is an overheating issue.

I will try to figure out the steps to make this situation reproducible on my phone.

PS. I have had my phone for ~2 years and it’s only the last month or so that this has been happening.

I have the same issue. After restarting it works again.

Yeah it’s still happening for me and sees to be unrelated to hear/signal/location.

It starts with short drops to GPS, then a total loss of the GPS connection.

Restart phone and it works again for another hour or so.

Very frustrating, issue. 😔

Same thing for me

GPS first works and doesn’t work repeatedly after around an hour (like switching on and off), until it doesn’t work at all anymore, restart seems to fix it for the next hour. It happens to me with and without Android Auto and with all Apps that require constant GPS.

I don’t think it is an overheating issue, since it the error disappears after restart and it didn’t do it before (last year).

I’ve also ruled out overheating. It’s happened to me now when the phone is not hot at all.

It’s very frustrating. It seems I’m not the only one.

Does anyone know if there is a way to escalate this thread to the the Dev team?

Same here, very annoying. First it starts to lag. Losing position for some seconds, later in it just completely fails. After reboot or shutdown of the app accessing the GPS (doesn’t matter which app, so is phone/android related), making sure GPS is not active for some time, then it works again as well.

Please check this!

I am driving my family from England to Germany to Hungary starting now (in like 5 mins) and will check this. I will also have to change providers and roam, which I haven’t done with my NP3 yet.

Is there any update on this? I’m having the same issue, and it’s really annoying.

Nope. I don’t know how to escalate this. But it seems to be a genuine bug affecting a bunch of us.

I just drove from Munich to London and didn’t have a single drop on NP3 or previously on my CMF1.

Having said that it seems to be an issue where it’s located within the car. I’ve takes with various people with Android and iPHone and if it’s in the sunlight the phone will overhead and cancel GPS or shut down.

I always mount mine outside of sun rays.
