Glyph Matrix SDK - Notifications

Hi Nothing team (and community) ,

I’ve been exploring the Glyph Toy SDK and think it’s a really creative feature but I’m finding it a bit limited for app integration, since it requires users to open the Toy manually.

Are there plans for the Matrix SDK that allows apps to send custom Glyph Matrix notifications programmatically? For example, if I’m working on a simple step counter app, I’d love to queue a Glyph Matrix message like “10k steps reached!” to display the next time the phone is placed face down.

Right now, having to rely on the user selecting the Toy manually adds too much friction for real-world app use. If apps could queue up custom Glyph notifications directly, it could become a much more powerful and engaging interface.

I understand users can create their own glyph notifications, but if an app can create them (and display different, custom Matrices) for users, that would be a lot more powerful.

vvilliamperez Hey, not using their SDK but you can send the notifications using the Notification listener by Google. Check that

I haven’t had time to play around with the SDK myself, but based on this I assumed that you can send custom notifications:

From my understanding based on the docs and the example projects, they all have to be registered as Toys and can only work when the user is manually selecting the toy to be activated.

The glyph matrix notification system is not part of the Glyph Toy SDK.

Maybe I’m incorrect? If someone can shed some light here that would be great.

vvilliamperez you can actually interact with the glyph matrix manager without registering a toy, it works although right now is not supported well

Vishwam What I would like to do is have my app send Glyph Matrix notifications, with custom images and animations. I’m familiar with normal notifications. Thanks though!

vvilliamperez Yes that is possible. I have it in my app. Like my app shows the app logo in glyph matrix from where the user receives the notification or app names directly
