NP3: recent update (11 JUL) and NOTHING fixes (Google Pay and no throttling)

Dear Colleagues,

I received my NP3 on 11 JUL with Metroid_V3.5-250529-1404 installed. It then updated to Metroid_V3.5-250626-1934 and I did most of my testing on this ROM. Today it finally updated to Metroid_V3.5-250711-2047.

There is a Metroid-V3.5-250719-1646 update for the -IND market (according to a git) at the moment that I cannot run on my -EEA ROM’d phone.

What improvements have I seen (Metroid_V3.5-250626-1934 to Metroid_V3.5-250711-2047):

Google Wallet/Pay is fixed. I never use this (not even once) but it was broken and is now fixed.

There seems to be NO throttling of the 8sg4 chip in this update (when my kitchen was 28C, the test could not complete). It is now 24C (like my very first test and the results are identical).

First test (old ROM):

I assume that the EXTREME TEMPERATURE warning and killing of the stress test occurs at 55C, which would be why I couldn’t run my phone on the hotter days (when the kitchen was 28C, assuming everything was bumped up 4C).

new test (Metroid_V3.5-250711-2047):

It seems that the Glyph Matrix is woking better according to reports, but I haven’t used them enough to make a judgement (they seem to work OK for me but I haven’t used all of the settings. Also, I have had some issues with the Essential Search disappearing and/or always asking me to choose a browser, which I will check over the course of the day.)

Someone requested flip from rear camera to selfie camera in an ongoing video recording and that is not present.

CMF1_hacker update received and installed this morning, still having issues with contactless with google pay… anything to ne done ? Support mail isnt helping much

JP all I can say is that it goes down about 30% with one extreme stress test as I’ve only had the update for 1h.

Here is the data on the old ROM.

Will keep you updated on the new ROM (12h SoT with my usage pattern)

I also got this update today and I’m happy to see that the NFC payment part is working properly now - great news!

I notice that the flip to glyph animation has changed - it was a sort of “splash” before and now it’s a single line. I kind of miss the splash! It’s a small thing, but it might be nice to customise that animation or be able to choose which one we’d like.
In fact, I’d also like a quick settings toggle for flip to glyph. I love the glyph matrix as a feature and I’m using it to help minimise my phone interactions - or rather, wean myself off the “ooh, a notification, let’s look at this other thing while I’m here” behaviours. Typically my phone is face down, but sometimes I want to be able to toggle between quiet mode and letting stuff through mode without having to jump into the settings.

As a fwiw, I wonder if the -IND market having a slightly different version reflects their slightly different battery capacity, rather than any other factor- it’ll be a different SKU so may have a different software release.

Interested to see about the camera optimisations.

Is there a way to access the changelog after the installation has happened? I can’t find it anywhere.

Smii I just saw this, this morning but they always roll out to -IND first

short camera test in a position that I thought would be toughest I could find easily. No tripod, lean against the wall. Photo mode (expert stops at 10x and press on the screen for af/ae).

I think the AI does better with faces and/or the multicolour provides the AI with more boundaries to work with.

edit: seems that there is much more post-processing going on than before (but I haven’t changed any settings since the update this morning)

edit2: I will take some more later today with ultra XDR switched off. It is currently switched on by default. I’ll do a back-to-back comparison and look at the extent of processing.

CMF1_hacker not tried the camera changes yet, but I am annoyed with the lack of common features in the Nothing camera app; No control over capture time aspect ratio, saturation/contrast etc. and I am sure other things I don’t tend to use but others might. Never had to bother with a third party camera app before, but I might start looking.

Smii I think they’re just trolling but let’s provide him/her/them with an opportunity for discourse.

That particular user seems to discuss the S25U scores in comparison to the NP3.

The data does show that the S25U produces a sustained 20% increase in scores (I guess this the 8elite vs 8sg4 difference), when one compares the asymptote. NP3 runs around 3522 and the S25U runs around 4200. It is important to note that the S25U has improved since FEB 2025 via updates as the like.

Perhaps this is some improvement for the NP3. I find it really interesting that S25U improved so much over a few months.

CMF1_hacker Samsung is og in mobile industries..they have almost unlimited money to back R&D… they can polish their software very easily… on the other side nothing is fairly new company has limited R&D money…small team…and still giving this kind of clean and smooth software experience is amazing thing… just imagine if nothing has Samsung level of budget for R&D and software…

CMF1_hacker Honestly I don’t care about the benchmark results that much if the underlying chip is efficient and doesn’t cook the batteries and the OS runs well enough.

In this case the chip isn’t efficient due to the core config. Personally I’d be fine with losing performance at the cost of gaining efficiency. To further hammer in my point. Similiar SoT predictions in accubattery despite having a 600mah smaller battery.

Benchmarks. I’ve been in this game, long in the tooth, since before most here were born. Ever since the days of monthly magazines the size of phone directories (Byte, anyone?) I’ve developed a healthy disregard for the headline numbers which develop into artificial targets for brands to work to.

Has anyone actually handling the N3 on a daily basis had what they class as “lag” ? I’ve had mine only a week, and so far so good. I am sure as apps grow even more there will be issues, but as of today it’s handled everything in a way that is satisfactory to me.

PeterGalbavy interestingly yes, I have seen lag/crashes.

GARMIN connect seems to update via bluetooth to my Garmin Forerunner 45 much slower than my CMF1. Also, the SKILLROW app from TechnoGym lags/crashes compared to my CMF1. Having said that, both are known for not have excellent software support (it barely works out the door).

I was a COMPUTE!s Gazette person with my first C64. It seems they just relaunched this month in fact!

I haven’t seen the faintest bit of lag, judder or pausing at all - it’s been rapid, responsive and pleasant to use throughout.

CMF1_hacker odd, have used GC with my also new FR970 and it seems faster to sync than the O+ 8Pro I had in the preceding weeks. Can’t speak for the other stuff. Will keep a look out.

Hi! Yeah, I have also added a HR strap (cheapo Decathlon) to the FR45, so perhaps, it is taking longer to process now. This was nearly at the time of the CMF1 to NP3 upgrade. I find the TG Skillrow software janky at best, so I won’t hold that against the NP3.
