If I read the doc right, the AOD toys only display for the amount of time you set, when they recieve the AOD event which is sent “every few minutes” so it’s really not AOD.
If I had to guess nothing made it this way because of battery life, running leds is cheap, but not free.
But, you do not have to make a toy to use the glyph matrix. You can control the matrix directly and send custom notifications to it. I haven’t played around with it that much yet so there might be some caveates I do not know about.
I am pretty sure that you can have your own custom service that runs all the logic you need and send notifications when needed, and also combine it with a toy if you want.
So for example: Your service could determine that the tamagotchi is hungry and send a notificafion, the toy recieves the same event, then interacting with the toy would feed the tamagotchi, which also gets sent back to the service.
