NOS 2.5.1 Unable to place calls via Google Phone/Contacts Apps
- (Edited)
Hi.
I know this is not the right place to report bugs. But since the Feedback section in settings is missing in 2.5.1 (another bug, not as important as this one tho), I had to create a post here.
Making call through Contacts app, contacts section inside Phone app, Messages app is broken saying “You have disabled a required permission”. I confirm that all the permissions are given to all of these apps. It is a serious issue to be in a stable release.
I have captured the log while reproducing the issue, I think the issue is with com.android.dialer.LAUNCH_PRE_CALL permission. I have tried granting that permission using adb shell && pm grant com.google.android.dialer com.android.dialer.LAUNCH_PRE_CALL but it also fails to grant the permission.
12-18 02:28:43.681 2539 3317 I ActivityTaskManager: START u0 {act=com.android.dialer.LAUNCH_PRE_CALL dat=tel:xxx pkg=com.google.android.dialer cmp=com.google.android.dialer/com.android.dialer.precall.externalreceiver.LaunchPreCallActivity (has extras)} with LAUNCH_MULTIPLE from uid 10155 pid 9260 result code=-94
12-18 02:28:43.689 9260 9260 E QuickContactFragment: QuickContacts does not have permission to launch Intent { act=com.android.dialer.LAUNCH_PRE_CALL dat=tel:xxx pkg=com.google.android.dialer (has extras) }
Again, sorry about creating a post here instead of sending a feedback, I couldn’t do that. I can provide further information/logs if needed.
Addition to this I am also facing issues when trying to call from maps, chrome etc… none of the call button works

Hi after the 2.5.1 update, my Nothing Phone(2) phone/calling capabilities have been severely impacted. I want to follow these steps as provided by Rob in this post: https://nothing.community/d/1531-nothing-phonenos-bug-reporting-guide but this option is not there anymore in [Settings > System > Feedback]. Also searching for “feedback” in settings does not yield the option.
The problems I’m facing right now:
- Bluetooth phone communication is severely broken in my Tesla. The moment you want to call someone from the car, the whole bluetooth stack crashes on the phone.
- The internal linking from other applications to the phone app (the original supplied one on the phone (Google), latest version) is severely broken. I.e. does not work. For instance, when finding a contact in the original (Google) contacts app, and you want to call them from the contacts app, you get the dreaded super annoying short pop-up “You have disabled a required permission”, but yet all the permissions are set correctly.
yes phone has been rebooted reset etc but the problems still persist.
NB. the problems started right after the update from the latest beta to the official 2.5.1. version.
Hai Everyone,
I recently updated by Nothing Phone 2 to Nothing OS 2.5.1. But after the update, I am unable to make calls through Google’s Contacts app. It shows “You have disabled a required permission”. I am able to make calls through the recent logs in the Phone App.
I have checked and verified that all required permission for the Contacts app are enabled.
Anyone else facing this issue? Is there a fix for this without resetting the phone?

Some community members have reported that they have been able to fix the issue by uninstalling the most recent updates for the phone application. Once done you can then reinstall the updates via the play store.
To do this, long press on the phone app and press app info. Head to the three dots in the top right of the next page and press uninstall updates. Then head back to the play store and search for updates.
This should trigger the permissions again, if not, try restarting your phone.
Of course this is likely just a temporary measure and a more permanent fix may be on the way.
