Well, Melissa Cameron @Carl and the entire Nothing team must be planning a lot for the launch, but let’s discuss what are the expectations of the Nothing community. @scarbo what are your expectations from the event?

I expect great things… terrible, yes, but great!

But joking apart, I think it’s going to be a community-focused event, they started with a sense of cummunity from the beginning afterall (crowdcube, this forum, etc.).

They will unveil a totally unseen product, so I expect a huge hype from the public, fueled by many reviewers who will fight to publish their review asap. I hope this is going to be an iconic product, if so then Nothing’s goal will be popular and everyone will wonder what comes next.

scarbo I also sense something new. This is getting exciting day by day. I guess, it is worth waiting for the exact details. 😁

arpan2308 The chances are there for this, but I don’t think they will limit the sales as they are all set to enter the Indian market which has a high number of potential buyers. So, maybe we can expect delays in production but definitely not a hault.

It’s a shame that the world is in the state it’s in. I think the launch event for Ear 1 will be pretty straightforward. But I can’t wait for future ones. Imagine being in the crowd for a Nothing launch event in a post-COVID world!!

FallOfTroy It is true that in-person launch events will provide a much better experience, but the thing is in-person events comes with geographical limitations. So, it is 50-50 between both events.

my expectation: the ‘event’ should all be about the experience, the vision… That’s what in my opinion makes nothing unique. Ear1 is merely the start of the journey - one little cog in the whole machine that you’re building

Honestly, I’m expecting something pretty straightforward but also a lot of talk about the vision and future of Nothing. There’s only so much you can saw about earbuds so I’m assuming at least half will be about the company itself. Definitely a launch focused event though. They are launching a product after all lol.

Launch events have always had that WOW factor (remember when OnePlus debuted on the NADSAQ Jumbotron in Times Square? The air was always electric, buzzing with great community spirit, being able to demo all the new products, great giveaways and maybe even hanging out with Carl and his team afterwards), and I’m hoping that Nothing’s first launch will be the same, even if it’s virtual.

The launch event will be much more than just the announcement of the product - it’ll help set the tone of how people perceive Nothing, I believe.

First impressions are always important, but this will be a clear representation of what Nothing will be able to do in its infancy. It’s true the Ear 1 needs to be a lot of different things to succeed, but the theatrical side of how they are presented to the world will also be key.

I do believe the Community will be addressed during the presentation, but I also expect it to be a series of signs and messages to the outside world. I assume the PR team already has a network of contacts, so the RSVP and the press releases should be in the works.

But I am sure that some publications and, especially a lot of potential customers, will hear the names “Nothing” and “Ear 1” for the first time during and in the aftermath of that event. News like “Nothing will show their first product on…” are going to be ten to the dozen.

To that effect, I hope to have clear details about the product with stunning cinematography. If you see an incredibly polished video, you’ll most likely remember to what it is attached to. And I hope that after the event happens, we don’t have to wait long for the release date.

There is a reason for that last sentence. Hype can be a good thing when created within reason, but it can also be gradually or sharply turned against what you want to preserve the most: the will people have to buy your very first product.

I am expecting memes to be honest… Anything else would mean Nothing to me!

Well given this recent news - https://nothing.tech/blogs/news/nothing-ear-1-to-land-at-smartech-selfridges-this-summer - I can only expect that a rooftop pop up would be the best way to launch the product. Thinking of rooftop theming here to coincide with the Nothing brand, F&B named after ‘potential’ products or ideas and then some keynotes/discussions from some of the investors and founding members. Perhaps even a ticketed system to allow community members to be at the event, before showcasing to the wider public. Not sure how you could do ‘product testing’ though, given the hygiene and security element involved.

ALSO for those not aware of Selfridges rooftop, it is capable of many events and promotions (there is also a cinema) including this:
