Yet another Nothing Themed Calculator App (Tester Needed)

Hey everyone,

I’m back after a while, and this time it’s not just an idea but an actual working app. Been experimenting with the Nothing theme again and thought, why not a Calculator app?

So yeah, here it is: Nothing Calculator App.

It’s basically a clean, minimal calculator inspired by Nothing’s design. No extra clutter, just a simple tool that looks good and works smooth. I’ve added a few neat things like history (you can swipe to check past calculations), light/dark themes, haptic feedback, and it even keeps the screen on if you’re in the middle of something. It does lack a few things, like I have skipped NDot font, which I will add once I get a custom one done for a complete look.

I need some testers before I push it out more widely. If you’re up for it, drop me your email in my DM and I’ll add you to the Play Store closed testing list. Feedback would really help me polish it further.

anoobav Ok, So excited to test the app but instead of making simple app give us some basic features like lenghth, mass…….and currency converter. Also add some nothing themed fonts like N-Type.

anoobav Loving the idea here. There are surely a few calculator apps out there with the Nothing theme already. But having more options is always good, as there is an audience for everything. A few things here. Make sure to use the color combinations correctly. For example, the AC button has red and white accents while the backspace has red and grey.

Overall the project looks good and I hope you achieve what you have targeted for.

Why do we need another calculator app? The Google one is good as it is. It’s a calculator. How much can you really add to it??? This feels REALLY unnecessary

_DC_ Honestly, we don’t, and I am not trying to compete with any other app.

I wanted to bring my design to life, so I built it and thought I’d share it with those who might like a calculator app that captures some of the Nothing’s design philosophy.

For someone, who have never touched code, be able to bring his designs to life, while understanding the whole design to code process is a big thing. So it might feel unnecessary to you or many others, but for me it is totally worth it. 😁

_DC_ maybe just see it at a project that give some happiness to the person that create the app, and some happiness for those who choose to use it. It can be seen positively. Maybe making calculator app is a first step easy enough for someone wanting to try. I don’t know but it’s better to encourage people who do something no ?

anoobav That’s cool, but I suggest not just using NDot but also incorporating NType in some way, seeing as though the company is moving slightly away from NDot.

Yes, I have plans, but for now my priority is to get it on the app store in its current form, and then get proper feedback from users to implement and fix what’s necessary.

I have finished this project in it’s current state in June only, but abandoned it as everything was getting directionless. With proper feedback, I’d be able to continue it and improve it further.

Right now I want to iron out bugs, before I add more features.

Is this bug or what “Cannot be divided by” or this should be “cannot be divided by 0”

Hey! I noticed cases like 1.0 - 0.9 - 0.1 give tiny numbers like -2.77556e-17 instead of 0. It’s just floating-point precision. You could fix it by rounding results before showing them or using a small tolerance for comparisons. Makes the calculator cleaner!

Your app should show like this 5.55112e-17(~0) . It would be more convenient.

Also, I noticed the calculator doesn’t support continuous calculations. For example, after 2 * 2 = 4, if you press = again and then * 2, it doesn’t continue the calculation to 8. Adding that feature would make it behave more like standard calculators.

As for your concerns,

Yes, that should show “Cannot divide by 0”, at least I am seeing that on my NP2. Looks like something’s messed up and the text is not auto resizing to fit. (will fix)
It took me a lot to come up to this, as I wasn’t sure if user actually want the exact result or we can get by rounding off. I’ll see what I can do. As for the second option, it might be a bit tricky to implement, I’d keep it to just rounding off, will work on the alternative [5.55112e-17(~0)] later.
Oh yes, calculator doesn’t support continuous calculations yet. I totally forgot that thing exists.

I will try to fix all of them in the next update. I might need some info on floating-point precision, if I get stuck somewhere, will hit you up via DM.

Oh that’s a good find, I almost missed it. The icon here has a transparent X, which is why it is picking the color from it’s background it seems. Will fix that for consistency. Thanks again.

Would be cool if the input feedback had sounds of vintage electronics along with vibration, like those which Nothing ringtones have been inspired from. Would embrace being “Nothing themed” much more.

So_rohantic Initial build that I worked on had sound as well, but I couldn’t fix the latency so removed it in the release build. I wanted to make it feel natural, but the lag was ruining the experience, so I removed it.

If I were able to fix it in future, will definitely implement it. Right now my utmost priority is to iron out the calculation related bugs and issues.
