Hey everyone, quick question. The changelog only mentions volume balance and transparency mode, but does this update also fix the audio quality issues some of us noticed after the last version? I asked support and they told me it should be addressed in a new firmware. Anyone know if that’s included here?

Funny enough, like 3 minutes after posting my last comment I actually got the new firmware 😅. I’d say it mostly delivered what it promised — volume feels a bit better (still drops with the advanced EQ, but improved) and transparency mode is way better, that’s where I noticed the biggest change.

That said, I’m still not fully satisfied with the audio quality. It still sounds kind of hollow/dark and lacking bass, at least to my ears. I already sent feedback through the app, but I’m curious — how’s everyone else’s experience with this new firmware so far?

Volume is nearly back to it’s original level we had with the former firmwares but more loudness would be better since the headphone was a little on the quieter side from the beginning. Bass is still not as good as the bass we had with the 1.0.1.67 firmware. I really miss the sound of the headphones when I first started using them.

JaimeLuna I agree, volume and transparency are back in order. But the sub bass is drastically different from version 1.0.1.67, as in its lacking. Thats the only thing missing, and for me its a deal breaker cause its one of the main reasons I got it. Hopefully they can fix it in the next update.

Transparency mode seems better for me in comparison to the last update.

What I still do miss however is the (sub) bass from earlier versions (for me the version that came out of the box at release was still best imo).

Looking forward to get the heavy bass back again tbh. It’s one of the main reasons I bought it, and worked flawlessly for me without issues.

Edit: I noticed that the higher I take the bass frequencies, the more it dampens the overall volume and takes away the highs n mids. It seems the presets in “simple” are doing this less, but don’t sound as good as advanced. My personal EQ is practically unusable atm without that bass’s punch, since it lowers the overall volume now without adding that bass I used to have at release out of the box.

Pinky1337 Have you tried out the bass enhance? I know it doesn’t technically simply increase the bass, but does it at least help?

I actually talked to support about that. They told me they’re aware of the issue with the bass getting messed up after the firmware updates and that they’re working on it. At the time they said it should be fixed within two weeks, but since I also complained about the volume and transparency mode, I’m not sure if they were talking about the update we just got now or if there’s another one coming next to fix the audio specifically. I really hope they get the audio right, because the hardware itself is solid — it’s just the firmware that’s letting us down.

Transparency Mode is finally usable again. I feel like, its still not back a 100% to the clarity of 2 updates ago.

Only thing, that is really annoying is the lackluster bass. I am rockung the H1 with stage 5 bassbooster and they still dont have that subbass that they had out of the box. Hope this gets a fix in the next update. keep up the work!

Agreed, sub base is drastically nerfed in this firmware version. Will try to tune it back, agreed that it was one of the main reasons I liked these over my QC Ultras.

[EDIT] spent the morning re-EQing and I think I got it back to where it was before. Involved changing Bass Enhancing mode to 5 (previously on 1), and some tweaking to both low and high frequency curves. EQ’d w ANC on.

There was definitely an issue with clipping in the bass in previous versions, I feel like this firmware version changed the default to be much closer to the power limit of the headphones to prevent the possibility of over-EQing and causing the bass to clip. Response is also more similar between ANC on vs off. Maybe just some bias or better EQing but I think the detail is slightly better in the highs now. Overall I think this firmware is a longterm improvement over the previous firmware, just required some additional tweaking.

pollenjh It barely helps. At lvl 5 you can barely feel it. Its something the eq can’t change. Only an update will do. Even my bose QC have more bass.

pollenjh i personally have the bass enhanced feature set to 5 now. Before I updated to 4, this boosted the bass accordingly and as expected. For now after the updates, it barely does anything atm. Yes you can hear some minor improvements, but nowhere nearly as much as before, where I liked it most. And since the updates, when using the Advanced EQ, the more you boost the bass frequencies, the lower the overall volume becomes, which wasn’t the case before the updates. I’m still in contact with support about this, hopefully they will fix the bass enhancement like it was before.

I also maybe got to say I never use the headphones on Max volume like I read some people do (or feel the need to, to get reasonable volume), since it’s way too loud imo when doing so, almost always use them below the limit android gives about hearing issues.

JeremyHernandez_lAfkzVVukV Yeah I figured. That’s a shame, it’s a common complaint. I’d keep an eye out on the return window if you’re unsatisfied, the fix may not come for who knows how long.

pollenjh Yea I had that in mind for this update, I got 10 days left on return policy. Really disappointed they weren’t able to fix it in time. I’ll probably repurchase later and see how they are.

eviltom Thats the problem from the get go, KEF specializes in speakers, which is why I don’t understand why nothing didn’t work with DMS again to tune the headphones like they did the nothing ear buds which sound amazing.

JeremyHernandez_lAfkzVVukV That’s basically how it was with the first Ear (1) lol. Pretty meh stock tuning, but that completely changed with the Ear (2). HOPEFULLY they follow the same route with Headphone (2). You could honestly just wait for those as I don’t see this issue being fixed

odetojamie yes, it sounds much more balanced, doesn’t it? I tweaked down the highs and set to Bass 2, which I like a bit more. Thanks for the feedback. Really enjoy the advanced EQ, huge selling point of these headphones for me.
