odetojamie yes, it sounds much more balanced, doesn’t it? I tweaked down the highs and set to Bass 2, which I like a bit more. Thanks for the feedback. Really enjoy the advanced EQ, huge selling point of these headphones for me.

JeremyHernandez_lAfkzVVukV That’s basically how it was with the first Ear (1) lol. Pretty meh stock tuning, but that completely changed with the Ear (2). HOPEFULLY they follow the same route with Headphone (2). You could honestly just wait for those as I don’t see this issue being fixed

odetojamie for sure. Bass Enhancement on 2. Ended up dropping the highs quite a bit, since the bass is lower it doesn’t need as much to balance it out.

Can also confirm that the 3.5mm input is working as advertised now, thumbs up for that because I can use the HP(1) with my PlayStation Controllers again.

Post-update I did notice the volume levels had been recalibrated but are totally within tolerance for me since I don’t like to listen at max volume. I’m running the Bass Enhancement at level 1 and I find that it works appropriately (if I put on an acoustic track like Nick Drake’s ‘Pink Moon’ the low-end doesn’t blow out, but if I put on James Blake’s ‘Limit To Your Love’ I get a pressure wave that massages my skull when the bass drops), again that’s totally within tolerance for me.

Edit: trying Tofu’s EQ with bass enhancement set to 1 and that’s…a significant level of bass for me. Tried it with Bedrock’s ‘Beautiful Strange’ and heard a lot of low-end there. I never listened with the out of box firmware, just updated immediately to the version before this one, but I have no complaints about the low-end now, especially with this EQ. Thanks @tofu_onl

From my experience with headphones it is normal to have some distortion or issues when either driving beyond their capabilities or with extreme EQ.

If Nothing made their updates based on trying to mitigate this then I think it’s the wrong move. They should leave it as per the OG tuning and advise with a warning message relating to EQ/maximum volumes so users can expect these issues if really pushing things.

pollenjh i personally have the bass enhanced feature set to 5 now. Before I updated to 4, this boosted the bass accordingly and as expected. For now after the updates, it barely does anything atm. Yes you can hear some minor improvements, but nowhere nearly as much as before, where I liked it most. And since the updates, when using the Advanced EQ, the more you boost the bass frequencies, the lower the overall volume becomes, which wasn’t the case before the updates. I’m still in contact with support about this, hopefully they will fix the bass enhancement like it was before.

I also maybe got to say I never use the headphones on Max volume like I read some people do (or feel the need to, to get reasonable volume), since it’s way too loud imo when doing so, almost always use them below the limit android gives about hearing issues.

So I just got these headphones this morning and out of the box they actually sounded really solid with the stock tuning. But I immediately experienced the bass cracking issue so I decided to update the firmware. I could instantly tell the volume was lower and the bass was weaker, definitely didn’t punch like it did out of the box. The ANC and transparency are great though, no complaints there. I think these headphones are right on the edge of being something really special and I really hope they can get it there. I’ll be trying them out for 30 days and if things don’t get better I’ll be returning them sadly, as i feel like my nothing ear 2024 out preform them in their current state.

Hi, I unboxed my headphones today and immediately updated them to the latest version. From what I’ve read here, I have a similar impression to the person above – the transparency mode is impressive, and the ANC works very well. As for the sound, I’ve used several QR codes from YouTube reviewers. So far, the DMS configuration from Linus’s video suits me best and is satisfactory, but the volume level is definitely too low! I feel like the headphones’ maximum volume is about 70% of their intended volume.

The bass isn’t sufficient for me either, even with the gain set to level 5. I can definitely feel it, and it fits the songs well, but I don’t feel the vibrations I was looking for.

Please focus on increasing the maximum volume and bass output. I think I’ll keep them for 30 days, and if things don’t improve, I’ll consider returning them. Although, aside from the comments I’ve made here, they’re almost perfect, certain aspects are a dealbreaker for me. You’ve made a beautiful product. Please don’t abandon it. I’ll also post this comment on the Nothing X app.

WojtekWiatrowski I did a lot of testing with the last night with the stock tuning and other EQ settings I’ve found. I noticed that the bass enhance option doesn’t really do much at all, doesn’t matter what level it’s set at it hardly has any effect that you can notice. I too love my music to be a little on the bass heavy end, compared to my nothing ear buds the bass is excellent there and the enhancement feature actually does something.

I also compared them to my roommates Bose quietcomforts and the Bose were most definitely louder at the same volume level and the bass was much deeper. If they could get it in the ballpark of those I would be extremely happy considering the Bose cost about $80 less too.

I’m starting to understand why the countless reviews I’ve seen of these headphones were so contradictory. Some said they were too quiet or the bass was a bit weak, others said the opposite on both counts. A few people also mentioned crackling noise. I think these people started testing the headphones at different points during the updates.

Regarding volume, I also compared them to my computer headphones, which can be almost twice as loud, and the bass practically shakes my head. I’m not saying which is better, because when I listen to Nothing with a custom EQ, I hear much more depth and new sounds in the tracks, something that confirms that those are surely an upgrade. The sound quality is very good, but they’re simply too quiet, and at times I wish they could add more bass. What they’re currently generating at level 5 should be level 1.

WojtekWiatrowski yeah I completely agree 100%. I don’t think they sound bad by any means, with the right EQ you can make them sound great for what you like. They just feel they’re not reaching their full potential and are being limited. It really feels like the right firmware update could change that.

Honestly, I think no one here is still hopeful anymore. The community has been raising the same issue again and again, but the team shows no movement at all toward solving it.

What’s even worse is the impression that the devs aren’t even aware of what’s being reported in the community. That’s very disappointing, especially from a brand that presents itself as “re-innovated.” 😒

Major companies always check versions properly before release. Is there seriously no QC team at Nothing? Who is responsible for pushing out a version that re-introduces bugs we already suffered through before?

At this point, the real questions are:

What value are we actually getting for the money we spent?
Who will fix this issue, and when?
Is there any responsible person or team here willing to clarify the situation?

This is becoming a very bad experience for customers who genuinely wanted to support the brand. Transparency and accountability are the least we deserve.

sajindask I couldn’t have said it better myself. This company’s support is a bunch of AI bots who talk to you like you’re stupid. I haven’t received a clear answer as to whether the issues I reported have been addressed, or if the team plans to fix anything. I’m leaving for a long trip at the end of September and really wanted to take these headphones with me, but if nothing changes, I’ll have to return them.
