Alternatives to Google’s New Phone App on Nothing Phone?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone else noticed how clunky and visually off Google’s new Phone app looks on the Nothing Phone? It feels… out of place and not very user-friendly.

I’m curious what dialer apps you all are using instead. Are there any clean, functional alternatives that play nicely with the Nothing OS and don’t feel bloated?

Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences!

asianmusicguy Bro here is the full step to roll back to the old Google Dialer.

1. Open Google Play Store.

2. Search for Google Dialer (Phone by Google).

3. Open the app page → tap Uninstall to remove the latest update.

4. Once it rolls back to the factory version, tap the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.

5. Disable Auto-update for this app, so it doesn’t update again.

If not then you can use dialers like “N-Dial” or “Voidcaller” which have complete asthetic of nothing os.

asianmusicguy use voidcaller. It’s an amazing app but just you find early access link, I don’t have it right now but the app is superb you should try it

Ali Fakhruddin I support this and found this N Dial excellent and have been using it between the CMF1 and NP3 for nearly one year.

The only issue is that I cannot enter any diagnostic modes like I can via Google Phone. For example, to flash a OTA update. I would assume that this is locked down my Google, which is the only reason I keep Google Phone installed.

It’s time nothing should make a dialer app with all the feature it’s competitor are providing. Can anyone know how to share this message to the developer team?

CMF1_hacker Thanks budd. Actually system based USSD won’t work with third party dialers. Like call recording.

Ali Fakhruddin my old Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition had a Google-free Chinese ROM and a Xiaomi dialer that recorded call. The Xiaomi.EU ROM was excellent as it had the Chinese options left in it including Call Recording and Access card recording. The .EU ROM also allowed adding Google back, which was nice.

Your app is excellent and I recommend it at every opportunity.

Ali Fakhruddin ended up switching back to N dial because your app is just more stable but i did have some feedback

if i make a call using the messages app after the call ends a error messages says “can not place a call as another call is already dialing” (actually even before it begins to for a split second)
can we have dial tone when keys are pressed
is it possible have 3 button nav accommodation’s for disability reasons ?
It took me a while to figure out the ear meant speaker? maybe find a alterative icon to make it stand out i have an example i made using AI to give you idea
Could you add a setting that lets us choose a formatted view (e.g., (416) 555-1234) instead of only the raw version (+14165551234)? Having the choice would make numbers much easier to read at a glance, while still letting others stick with raw format if needed.

I think this small change would go a long way in making the app more user-friendly.
I’ve noticed a navigation issue in N Dialer when using the Contacts section. If I open a contact, there’s no visible back arrow to return to the main contacts list or Recents, and swipe-back gestures don’t work from there. The only way out is to close the app.
from the same contact view if i try to send a message and i have more then one sms capable app installed i have to choose every time there should be just once or always options

I feel that there should be an option to disable Google dialer I feel that there should be an option to disable Google dialer because if we can use any one dialer then it is not necessary to have another app

I’m personally using a Voidcaller right now and it gives me so many vibes in app usage from Samsung Galaxy default dialer. An ability to swipe to call is literally a great one. And yeah, the design is also follows the gallery app what’s also great. I think the team just should bring this version as official default dialer, why not?

I’m hating Google apps since many time I guess (definitely for 5 years already or more), but I’m using most of them here cause no other alternative created on Nothing. I was so happy when I disabled Google messager app on Z Flip5 and turned back to one UI messages app, that’s why having Nothing-style apps here forces me to use all of them.
