Totally agree - Smoked transparency definitely feels a bit more classy, slightly more forgiving to keep clean too I’m sure!
Transparent Tech
My only concern with transparent tech would be the material used and long term use. I’m pretty sure most of us know what happens to clear TPU cases over time. I’m curious to know what materials are being used in the development process of Nothing’s Transparent tech.

I agree with you - Up until now, I was under the impression the products may be a combination of other materials with transparent accents…but after seeing this Instagram post, it looks like we’re going full transparent!
Yep, I think you are spot on - and it seems that @[deleted] was correct, as even the case is apparently transparent.
Don’t know if you guys saw it already, but they also posted the full first episode for “Final Stretch” on their YouTube channel. You can see it below - hopefully we’ll have an official thread about it/the series soon.
Thanks for sharing, that was great - very excited to see the results of their work! What a unique product it will be!
First thing that came to mind after seeing this was “I hope there is no discoloration with long-term use”. It all comes down to the materials they used for this.

This is indeed one key point on what can make a transparent product a success or not.
For example, having a pair of earphones that after one year they turned yellowish would just completely ruin the looks of it. So really hope they got the formula right.

Although it is non-tech, I remembered my transparent Rubik’s Cube. Considering how well it aged after using it for some years and knowing that it is not a high quality product, it gives me hope for the future of transparent gadgets.
I don’t think it is the internals because it should be a macro shot and the depth of field would be different, unless they created the image using focus stacking, but that’s already too conspiratory.
Archive (bot) Love that! The inner workings of a Rubik’s Cube were a mystery for most of my childhood until I took one apart!
I think it IS the internals, the section at the top of the image looks like a headphone driver to me….but honestly, I have no idea…whatever it is, its nicely designed
I was looking at that image for minutes and minutes. At first, I saw a very fancy zipper, hehe. My guess is that it is the inside of the earphones, however, portrayed with a digital composition created for marketing purposes.
I am not saying it doesn’t represent what’s actually inside the device, just illustrated in a very artistic way. Perhaps it’s part of a press kit, since TechCrunch credits Nothing for it.
I think you are right! I was doing some Sherlockholian investigation and I found this site with the AirPods teardown and this other one with AirPods and Pixel Buds where you can see something similar in some of the images.
Be it the future ear (1) insides or not, I’m really curious to know how the image was shot or created.
Ah, I love the iFixit teardowns! The AirPod Xray might be our best guess as to how ear(1) will look
I think he’s holding the smartphone which maybe our next product.
Many thanks for the heads-up, I just watched it and the amount of work and dedication is not only promising, but inspiring.
The 27th of July will be memorable and this series is doing a terrific job making time move slower, hehe.
Two things about the video that caught my eye:
Here he is holding a device with a touchscreen. If it is a smartphone where he is controlling some sort of app, why blur it? And if it’s not a commercial product we already know, then what is it?
And I do love this part. Assuming this will continue with the retail version of the Ear (1), it’s promising the device will get firmware updates, be it directly to them or through an app. It was expected, but it’s always reassuring.
A good, lasting support, like we were talking about in another thread, can shape the idea you have of a company. If Nothing manages to release a solid product on launch day and improve it over the next months, the message will be clear.
If they continue to do that, even after they release a second product, they’ll get a huge vote of trust, I believe.
Haha totally agree, time has slowed since the launch date was announced!
It’s a great video, so much to unpack!
These chaps certainly seem to know what they’re doing - it’s great that Nothing is being transparent () and sharing the behind-the-scenes of the development process.
I’m curious about that touch device too, now that ear(1) is finished and being marketed, I’m sure development has begun on the next product.
I was also curious to see the profile of the buds in the ear, they appear quite small which I’m pleased to see:
I believe you are correct about the next product. Not only is it exactly like you mentioned, the ear (1) should be a finished product by now, it’s also said on this TechCrunch article that “the Ear (1) are the first of three products the company currently has in its pipeline”.
In the screenshot you shared, they do indeed look rather small, which makes me even more curious about the final design, but also about battery life. They also have a profile really identical to the Concept 1. I like that design, so I wouldn’t mind a final product heavily inspired by it.
When talking about “transparent tech”, @Carl mentioned that “you probably wouldn’t notice the differences between each iteration” before adding that “it could be getting the right magnets — as magnets are usually designed to go inside of a product and not be seen by the consumer — to figuring out the best type of gluing”.
Perhaps the differences between the Concept 1 and the ear (1) will be minor, but important, like those he mentioned. I am with you, these videos are really well-made and they show more than enough to keep you interested. So I cannot wait for the next one.
Next Tuesday, July 13, we’ll be exactly two weeks away from the presentation. Perhaps we’ll have new information then. We have the price and the launch day already, so I am curious to know what they will reveal during July and what they’ll reserve for July 27.
I’m getting this feeling that only the case for ear1 is transparent.
I remember the Macs having a transparent back…it looked ‘okayish’ .
Nah…that’ll look sooo bad…if the entire TWS unit is transparent, then it’ll be eye catching
Cheetosdust Perhaps the differences between the Concept 1 and the ear (1) will be minor
Indeed, probably the changes will be done to make it commercially feasible.
