Anyone else wish Nothing OS had OriginOS-style depth and transparency Deesign ?

Hey everyone 👋 I recently saw Vivo’s new OriginOS 6 update, and I’ve got to admit — it looks insanely polished! The whole “Light & Shadow Space” design with glassy translucency, soft depth layers, and animated icons feels so fluid and alive. I’m currently using a Nothing Phone 2, and I love Nothing OS’s minimal aesthetic — it’s clean and classy. But part of me wonders 👀 — what if Nothing OS added a bit more “depth” like those subtle glass effects, adaptive widgets, or even some dynamic island-style status animations (without losing the clean vibe)? Has anyone here tried recreating OriginOS 6’s look on their Nothing Phone using launchers or icon packs? Would love to see setups or ideas from you all! — Just to be clear: not talking about flashing ROMs or anything unofficial, just design inspiration.

Anyway, the beauty of Nothing is that it has its own style in the world of smartphones, recognizable. I wouldn’t want it to be the same as all the others. If it were stylistically ugly, I could even understand, but honestly, I don’t think it’s the case.

Anonymous931 Do you remember the time when Play Store had a ton of launchers and people were flocking to try out different themes offered by them? They still do. We used to have liquid glass themes stuff back then. The current trajectory of OS reminds me of that era. I like the minimalism Nothing has to offer.

Anonymous958 Yep. And those launchers and anything related to customisation is pretty much still there available to everyone. Good times when people used to go there and install an app they like, instead of spamming here 24/7 how they want exactly this and that and how they expected much more from Nothing (ofc. to look like carbon copy of iOS).

There was a thread yesterday where one community member was requesting features in Nothing OS like to see in notifications how many devices is connected to his hotspot, to play YouTube in background when screen is off, to double tap on lockscreen to turn it off etc., yet he refused every single option I gave him to get that immediately. He doesn’t want to use Firefox for YouTube in background, he rather wants Nothing to fix Google’s limitation (of not allowing that for non-premium users). He doesn’t want to install this app, that app… There’s a solution for every of his problems but his answer to all of that was - “Why do I need to install anything? Nothing has to add that to NOS!” 🤷‍♂️

Anonymous931 pretty much sums everything up. It looks like Nothing has to come up with a way to let Youtube play in the background for freemium users. Why not pay for it then? The future of Nothing OS suddenly starts to dwindle.

Anonymous931 I saw that too, and I was about to type a long, detailed message about it. But then, after reading more of his replies, I realized it’s like ‘casting pearls before swine’, totally pointless. You gave him solutions for everything, and yet he was still insisting, “No, I need everything integrated into nothing os.” I don’t know, but sometimes it feels like some people do this on purpose. After 4 months of research, he still decides to pick up the phone to complain? Seriously, who even does that?

you’re upset there aren’t enough “feATuRes”! Congratulations you’ve completely missed the point. Don’t try to call out Nothing just because your fantasy version of “Nothing” didn’t show up. What’s really wrong here are your expectations, spoonfed by other manufacturers. You wanted gimmicks and the never ending “more, more, more’ nonsense and now you’re shocked that someone finally decided to stop the bloat.

Samsung’s mountain of customizations? Ninety percent of it is pure clutter that no one touches just like the SPen which only a microscopic percentage of users actually use. Why would anyone waste time building features thatll sit there collecting digital dust?

And don’t even get me started on glass tiles ,possibly the most gloriously useless idea ever to make it past a product meeting.

Not just useless but it’s totally destroying battery life even on laptops with much larger batteries:
