AI integration and settings

Hi, I'm currently looking into getting a new phone in the not too distant future, and Nothing has really caught my eye, along with a few others, for their unique design and impressive specs. I noticed that the 3a and others all come with built in "AI" integration with Nothing AI. My main questions are: Can this integration be disabled, and can these buttons be remapped? I have zero interest in AI features, since they're largely useless, and would love to be able to reconfigure a device once I purchase it. Cheers.

I would say , Dont waste your money here , you’ll regret a lot later if not sooner .

The company does not give you what you exoect ,but that’s fine , no issues.

But importantly , the company does not give you even what they told you to expect from them .

Also , you dont have the freedom to make your complaints here in the community , as some bs users are here to defend the brand like anything.

So , buy a pixel or samsung or any other device , atleast you’ll not regret.

AbiS_MjZL72iTVk I have a samsung, that’s why I was considering swapping over. No longer, since the brand seems intent on shooting itself in the foot right now.

Coldpaw I found that there are ways to remap it, and disable all the AI stuff, but for a brand that was so focused and marketed towards “No bloatware”, this devolution into AI slophood and forced mainstream social media promotion makes it a non-starter for me. I’m not even gonna consider it at this point, they’ve clearly fallen for the hype. It’s not even that some of the things they’re doing aren’t useful; it’s that so much of what they’ve done recently flies directly in the face of what they say they are. Zero integrity.

Ambassador_Pineapple no one knows🤷🏼‍♀️ I also have complaints about Nothing as I had for Samsung and other brands. Here are some real fans loving the brand and trusting it so hard even after adding such controversial features. And also here are some true fans or regular users complain about many many things about Nothing. At my guess, we must accept all these sides.

Ambassador_Pineapple I didn't mean to lie, like just accept these both sides without having to argue with them. You have your own opinion that might me connected to one of these sides, that's alright. Just don't start arguing with the other side🤷🏼‍♀️

SinXCosXTanX I mostly take reminders without the screenshot, just text them. It became a good to-do list with also a space for saving something that amaze by categories.

Essential Key is essentially an Overengineered Screenshot Button, If you take a lot of screenshots (and want to use them as a reminder) it may be helpful for you.

SinXCosXTanX There was already a dedicated screenshot functionality in Android. It was called "Volume Down + Power". It just sounds like this """essentials""" shit is for people with crippling attention deficits. Undoubtedly, every capture it takes is shunted to the cloud to help them train their custom AI model. What a bunch of slop.

themountofmint That is where the confusion with Nothing begins , Nothing want the users to use their phone as low as possible , and be more on real life but also , they want their users to save each and everything inside the phone so that they can come again to see that . A screenshot reminder ?

You are mixing up things, Nothing wants user to use Phones as productive as possible.

AbiS_MjZL72iTVk well, let's be honest, if anyone is an active smartphone user nothing can stop him at all, even monochrome and such options so it's basically just a personal willpower🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't have it as much to reduce my screen time, for example. So monochrome is just an aesthetic screen for me, but not a real working thing for less-distraction.

As for "screenshot reminder" Essential Space — it's a planner and something like Bullet journal for me first. It helps me stay productive and don't forget about things that matter to me the most. They want their users to save each and everything inside the phone so that I can come again and look for an aesthetic, inspiration and find any ideas from the latest saved ones to use in my works. I can write my posts or just leave a little hint for something new to continue writing later when I'll have a time to continue that idea. This is how I use it.

Look, all major brands are going in the direction of AI and other things you might or might not agree with. As far as I know, the only option to stay away from this is Graphene OS, Lineage OS and a couple of others. There is a way out, you know, but it's pointless demanding stuff Frome a manufacturer who clearly follows the industry standards like every other manufacturer looking to turn a profit, be it Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi or whoever. Either pick what suits you best from the mainstream offerings or go with the other options. I bought my first Nothing phone (the 3) a few weeks ago, and while it's not "perfect", I find the experience to be very likeable and I actually love my phone for the first time since my Xperia XZ1C days. Nothing is carving out a unique niche "experience" which you may or may not like, don't ask them to turn their products into anybody else's product - it's ridiculous. Buy something else then. And for the record, I do have a pixel 7 on graphene OS, for the times I do get sick of being snooped on and spoon fed crap. But it is what it is.
