Hearing aids issue with Android 14

Hello people, I have the following problem with my hearing aids (child hearing aids Asha Protocol) unfortunately it no longer works reliably after the Android 14 update. I also re-paired the hearing aids several times, without success. I would be very grateful if this problem was resolved. Because I depend on it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your child’s hearing aids. There could be several reasons why they are not working reliably after updating to Android 14.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

Verify that your phone is running the latest Android 14 patches, which may resolve issues introduced with the initial release.
Ensure the hearing aids are properly charged or have fresh batteries, as low power can cause connectivity issues.
Clear Bluetooth cache and data:
- Go to Settings > System > Reset Options.
- Select ‘Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth’ or go to the Bluetooth settings and clear its cache and stored data.
- After clearing the cache, try pairing the hearing aids again.

Forget and re-pair:
- Go to Bluetooth settings and forget the hearing aids.
- Turn off Bluetooth, then turn it back on.
- Put the hearing aids in pairing mode and attempt to pair them again.

Consider resetting all network settings on your phone. While this will remove all network settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, mobile data settings, and Bluetooth pairings, it can sometimes fix connectivity issues.
There might be a compatibility issue with the Android 14 update. Please consider contacting the manufacturer of the hearing aids for their advice or a firmware update.

Dial *#*#569#*#*>>Bluetooth
Turn on “Screenshot” & “Record screen” &“Bug report”
Select “NO REBOOT”
Turn off & on the Bluetooth once
Reproduce the issue (keep the log kit running in the background)
When the issue appears, please help save a screenshot (press the Volume- & Power buttons)
Dial *#*#569#*#* to go back to the log kit (or tap the one in the notification bar) and tap “Stop capture" and wait for “Log saved”
Tap “OK” when the log is generated
Turn back to the “Log tool” interface and tap the top right corner>>Log list>>long-press the log file we need>>copy>>ok
Open File Manager and find it under the folder internal storage-NtShareLog Choose the log captured just now
Upload the log file on Google Drive and share the link.
Remember to set the “General access” to “Anyone with the link”

What kinds of issues are you facing? Have you tried Googling to see if it’s a generic Android 14 issue or one relating to Nothing OS specifically?

Tom Hi Tom.

I’m still having problems with my Bluetooth hearing aids with sound coming from any other app other than the hearing aids’ own app.

When I newly pair them everything works fine for a while. Various things like turning the hearing aids off and on again causes problems.

I lose the ability to stream sound (sound or audio books) to the hearing aids. In settings, the media audio option disappears.

I have to get the phone to forget them and re-pair them to be able to listen to audio again through them.

The hearing aid app is unaffected.

It was fine before the Android 14 upgrade.

Any ideas please?

I have same issue it was working before and now after the update 14 it does connect like paired however media/caller sound is not coming in.

It had to do with cochlear implant. Please resolve as quickly you can. Im using almost whole day everyday.

I have done resetting/reconnecting/forgotten nothing helps.

And please change the “add left hearing aid” cancel button to “no thank you” instead cancelling whole progress. Kinda confusing.

I can provide what is happening in steps

Bluetooth on
Pair with cochlear aids
Connected gives beep sound it was connected
Bleutooth icon on top comes on then dissapears and comes back connected icon
Spotify playing no sound coming
Bluetooth devices and disconnected the device but button of disconnect stays pressed. Frozen. I can use forget it will disappear.

Here whats supposed to happen

Bluetooth on
Pair with cochlear aids
Connected gives beep sound it was connected then after 5 seconds another beep that its disconnected because there no sound currently playing. But on phone it says connected
Spotify playing, beep connected and plays music.

I have feeling that handshake mismatch on my cochlair device because it still remembers Android 13 or phone is missing handshake code after update?

If thats the possible case then Factory reset is probably useless.

Or it has possible identical issues with Bluetooth bugs like others.

Ive remembered something after update it did crash once and it made log of it maybe thats what triggered reset Connections and as collateral damage loses Audio acces to my implant?

Ugh if my feeling is right all i need is go to Docter and reset implant to be able make new handshake and use it again.

Because bluetooth works fine with controller so i have good feeling it works fine.

I’ve had similar problems, most specifically my hearing aid’s microphone no longer work since Android 14 no matter what I did (other callers heard no sound or an incomprehensible gibberish at best). Suddenly, yesterday, the problem was gone. Though I can’t be sure it will STAY gone, when it wasn’t working it was a constant problem, not intermittent.

Nothing phone support ASHA(Audio Streaming for Hearing Aid)?.

I’ve just had this same issue on my Nothing Phone 2. Fine when connecting hearing aids with bluetooth, but using their specific App stopped all audio. Just tried pairing again on the hearing aid’s app but this time I didnt allow access to contacts etc and it’s now working, thank god. Might work for some people but not all. Worth a try anyway.

I have the same issue with my hearing aids (new ones).

I can connect them to the phone wit the bluetooth connection. I can stream audio and hear incoming calls, the person on the other side cannot hear me. But after a while when the connection gets lost, and I reconnect, nothing works. The phone is registring my hearing aid in bluetooth, but no sound is getting transfered.

I can also connect through the amplifon app that my manufacturer is providing. The thing is that you connect the hearing aids and it works, but the app is telling you to restart your hearing aids and after that it doesn’t work anymore.

I also have this with other devices on android 14, (have tested on a device from my work). So it also might be a problem with android 14. I hope it is fixed in android 15, but I don’t know how long it takes to roll this out on Nothing Phone 2. I can test this if it is an update without a factory reset.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 tested today with android 14 and on this it is working like it should. So they have implemented it well, but on the Nothing Phone and other phone’s like Xiaomi it is not working for me. Maybe you can get in touch with Samsung on this?

Can Tom please comment on whether there is a wide issue with ASHA support on Nothing phones? I’m hoping to recommend one for a relative and there’s another thread in this forum which mentions specifically an NHS Signia hearing aid working well with a Nothing 2a. This thread sows a bit of doubt in my mind though! The exact hearing aids in question are Stretta Aya M, which I understand require ASHA support specifically.

On the new Android 15 beta on Nothing Phone 2, my hearing aid is keeping connection, even after being away from the phone and audio from the phone is playing. Only thing not working for me is the microphone from my hearing aid that is doing the audio return in phone calls. On Galaxy S24 this is working with this hearing aid.

It would be really groundbreaking if Nothing introduces hearing aids features just like Apple did at least in its flagship Ear line ups. I believe it is a software integration.

MadOne I would not be interested in that, only in full integration of existing hearing aids. I don’t know how the apple thing exactly works, but you need some good set-up of your aids to be effective to your hearing dissability.
