Things I love and hate about NOS 4.0 on 3A

Love:

Switching camera lenses feels a lot less jarring and color remains slightly more consistent
The new watermark doesn’t draw over the image but looks GORGEOUS
The filter tab is really good because you can quickly change the look without changing your lens setup
AOD, app launch, notification swiping, etc. animations feel a lot smoother
“Disable default frame rate for games” actually works now and I can get upto 120 hertz in Zenless OR upto 90 hertz normally. Doesn’t make a difference because the game won’t allow it but it’s good for other games; I will try CODM and FF soon
Essential search for contacts is great
Extra dark mode works as well as expected. It obviously doesn’t change apps so they remain bright but menus and settings are dark
Essential recorder upgrade is going to be extremely useful for my classes, thanks Nothing!
The expanded rules for Essential notifications isnt useful for me but I’m sure many people would love it

Hate:

Essential search waits for files, contacts, etc. to load before updating the results. So if I start typing an app name quickly it waits a tiny bit before showing me the app when on older versions it was instant. I’ve often quickly typed firefox and pressed enter and it opened a completely different app
Fonts in many places like quick settings, status bar, app drawer, doesn’t seem to be following my font setting as Inter and looks weird

Still won’t consider it big enough to be a version bump to 4.0, but it’s a great update

code913 yup the essential search is slightly annoying since I always used to type a few letters to quickly open an app, I tried reducing the search scope but still slightly slower than before

And btw the major version bump to 4.0 is necessary because they changed their base to Android 16, this implies there might be some breaking changes. This may not mean a lot to us normal users but it’s a necessary distinction for app developers
