Hey everyone,
I recently moved to a Nothing phone and this is my first time using Nothing OS. I really like the clean UI and smooth performance, but honestly, a few things are making the experience frustrating for me as a new user.
One big thing is the lack of a system side panel. On my previous phone, the side panel wasn’t just for shortcuts—it could open apps directly in floating window mode, which made multitasking super easy. On Nothing OS, even third-party side panel apps can’t do this because the system doesn’t allow it, and that feels like a step back in usability.
Another issue is Messenger chat heads. Sometimes it shows “Chat Heads,” sometimes it switches to Android “Bubbles,” even on the same device. This inconsistency is confusing, and I personally wish there was a proper option to use the classic Messenger-style chat heads, which feel more natural and user-friendly.
Also, lock screen customization feels very limited. Coming from other brands, I expected more control over widgets, shortcuts, or personalization. Right now, it feels more restrictive than minimal.
I know Nothing OS aims to stay clean and close to stock Android, and I respect that vision. But having these features as optional—especially a side panel, classic chat heads, and better lock screen customization—would make the OS much more welcoming for new users like me.
Posting this as genuine feedback, not hate. I really want to enjoy Nothing OS, but these things are currently hurting the experience.
Would love to hear what other users think.
