Selin Did people really hate the 3a Pro design that much? Enough to affect sales and make Nothing drop the circular camera bump completely?
I’ll be honest, I hated the 3a Pro camera bump at first too. I even posted something like, “God, the 3a Pro looks so ugly, but I have no choice but to get it since the regular 3a isn’t launching with 12GB RAM. That’s unfair.”
And somehow that got flagged as offensive by the Nothing mods on YouTube (Seems like nothing isn’t that transparent 😅).
Anyway… fast forward to actually using the 3a Pro… the design really grew on me. Especially the camera bump. It started feeling unique. Bold. Very “Nothing.”
Now with the 4a, it seems like they’ve completely moved away from that identity. The top layout is more oval-shaped, the Glyph lights are arranged in straight lines (on the right corners and three under the camera), so I get why a circular bump wouldn’t really fit this design (4a pro) language anymore.
The button placement is also… interesting. On the 3a Pro, I kept pressing the Essential key by accident at first. But once I got used to it, it was totally fine. muscle memory kicked in and I never mis-pressed it again.
Now they’ve moved power and volume to one side and the Essential key to the other and they’re positioned pretty high up too. It looks cleaner, less chaotic than the 3a series… but I can’t lie, I actually loved the bold, slightly weird design of the 3a lineup.
On one hand, the 4a looks neater and more refined. On the other hand, I’ll miss that unapologetically unique 3a Pro design. 😅
